As far as I know capped products are also shaped. They are just not throttled based on usage (they are capped based on usage).

There are no network issues currently.

I know two data points don't make a statistic, BUT:

My uncapped line has slowed to a crawl this morning. The Western Cape problems seem to be back and worse than ever, at least at my location. Speedtest results a downstream of 0.7mbps (http://www.speedtest.net/result/2540042598.png), which is even lower than my upstream! Hoping MrBEEP can sort this out. For the record, testing on a WebAfrica account yields appropriate results for my line speed (>8mbps). I've just sent an email to support, hoping for a quick fix!

edit: resolved after about an hour, back to very decent speeds :)

Getting the standard "based on your usage previously, everything seems to be fine" reply from support, which is pretty illogical, since the problem is with my current internet speed, not my previous speeds. MrBEEP, I've CC'd you in the mail, please assist!

edit: problem seems to have been resolved now. Not entirely sure what changed. Some mention of a routing issue was made.

This was identified as a routing fault, as per Charmaine's email.

The necessary faults have been logged.

thanks, whatever she did seems to be working :) Must say, OpenWeb support is top notch at getting things sorted out. I can only imagine how long this would have taken with mweb

Was looking at getting the 4 Mbps Gold Uncapped & Unshaped account for a month to test out, but it seems the Cpt guys are having some issues?

The gold uncapped unshaped package works very well as it will always get priority and unshaped data.

That I understand. :) But I'm not going to spend an additional R900 on internet this month if guys in Cpt are not happy with the product. Seems there are complaints in different ISP threads for guys in Cpt.

apparently some telkom testing tomorrow morning. well see how things are after that...

Better speeds today, between NNTP and torrents speeds are over 100kbps, much better than previously.

Daytime NNTP speeds seem to run about 300k/sec now on Silver uncapped. It's not the full line speed 24/7 nirvana of a couple of weeks back, but I can live with it, especially since at the stroke of 5:00pm the bandwidth floodgates open and everything rockets up to full speed. Since 99% of everything I download happens in the early hours, this suits me just fine. Daytime browsing and streaming is also top notch, unless there are regional IS problems on the network which is hardly Openweb's fault.

The couple of times I've had issues I needed help with, Openweb's support has been extremely helpful, with the quickest reply times I've yet experienced from an ISP. (and I've been with pretty much all of them) None of the other ISPs will go to such great lengths to help diagnose and fix your problems, at least in my opinion.

What people don't realise when reading these threads is that 90% of the time people post in them, it's when they're having problems and want to confirm/fix them - so that's the majority of what you see. For every person posting a complaint, there are probably 10 others who are perfectly happy with their accounts that don't feel the need to post.

Saw Openweb taking a bit of a knock in the last couple of pages, so wanted to give my 2c.
