Yea, random burst and now back to the norm.

MrBeep, when you shape during the day, is it the total account throughput or shape certain protocols

Shaping is based on how busy the network is at any given time.

Downloads and similar will be shaped

I understand the dynamic shaping, but if the network is moderately busy at 1pm, and I open a torrent and YouTube video, will both be similarly affected or will only the torrent?

Yep. Speedtest local and international is pretty normal.

Where does gaming fall within the shaping rules MrBeep? If my speedtest is normal, should my gaming be also?

Your torrent will takes the very lowest priority

It depends on which service level you are on.

Gold uncapped offers good gaming priority

I'm on vanilla 2Mbps. Alongside what is gaming prioritised for that?

Hey Friends,

There seems to be a network issue since 13:30 today.

Engineers are attending to the issue.

MrBEEP, we keep on going around in circles with this.
Once again, let me state the following:
1. The package is great when used after hours - that is where all these downloads occur. - Ok? everybody with me on this?
Now, lets look at what happens from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday - this morning, I cannot even send an email to your support desk because of my speeds on a so called Premium package, I cannot even open speedtest.net, I cannot download ANYTHING, and when I am lucky enough to be able to do so, then my speeds are between 20KB/s and 50KB/s.

Now, based on the splurb you guys have made on the GOLD packages, how can you tell me that there is no problem?
How can you tell me that for 8 hours a day, on a 10M GOLD premium package, showing non-existing speeds for one third of each 24 hour period, that there is no problem?

MrBEEP, are we on the same planet or am I just asking for too much? Yes, shape me during business/high bandwidth periods, but to the extent that this is happening goes contrary to the decription of the GOLD account.
Yeah I've noticed the same on 4mbps uncapped, testing it over a few weeks I've come to the conclusion that the more you download after hours the more you get shaped during the day, when I pushed my line after hours, day time was dead, using less after hours and I get better daytime speed. But I still find it eratic, NNTP can go full speed but a simple website takes forever to load, again it seems that they shape international more as well

We are aware of the browsing problem which is affecting mostly international sites. Engineers are attending to this issue. We also had isolated reports today of overall slow international, even on a capped service. Our upstream provider is also looking at this issue.

Shaping is area based. Folks in Cape Town will get different shaping to folks in Johannesburg or Durban for example, as the network is split into regions. Your shaping at 9am will not be similar to your shaping at 9:05am, as the network dynamically shapes available bandwidth.

is this true MrBeep?

Just so I can understand completely.

If subscriberDBN01 is full throttle downloading 24/7 will subscriberDBN02 be shaped as well as he is in the same area and because shaping is area based?
or will subscriberDBN01 be shaped and subscriberDBN02 will not be affected because of subscriberdbn01 usage?

edit: just logged in with my gold uncapped 2mb and it full speed line again for browsing.... there is definitely hectic shaping going on.

speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2631602759.png

During the day it would go from 20 - 40 kB/s
