This weekend, any slow speeds you are experiencing on torrents or similar is guaranteed not to be an account fault. The network is completely unshaped, as our OpenWebbers have confirmed. Please check your router settings or PC settings or similar.

Unshaped? Wow... My wife is only getting 30-40Kbps on a torrent with over 1,000 seeds.

I had emailed support about speed issues with my 4 Mb Gold line and the port was reset with an instruction to power off my router for 20 mins (which I did). I guess I have to get back to them on Monday...

NNTP going at 800kB/s while streaming cricket (if it every starts) and browsing at the same time with no issues.

Cannot complain :)

nope, shaped today :(
anyway, im stuck at work so i wouldnt be able to take advantage of it if it was fast.

@MrBeep:
what is the difference between the platinum account and the new account specials you keep coming up with, i ask as im on a 6mb line (telkom wont push up any further), the account ive got is a 10mb and i cant take full advantage, plus i could possibly save some cash, maybe.

Hi Morph,

Are you looking at the Platinum Uncapped Unshaped products listed here: http://openweb.co.za/business_adsl/platinum_uncapped_dynamic.html ?

what you probably have is a torrent with few leeders or a pubic torreeent.

try registering a private torrent site where their upload speeds for only 1 seeder is in excess of 5058.32 KB/sec.

im downloading a 400gig torrent and getting 550kb/s when not shaped, thats what private torrent sites are all about, sharing.

@MrBeep: im not sure which one im on honestly, you upgraded me some time ago :p

Does Openweb impose any restrictions (or the use) on VPN, SSL, SFTP, SSTP and SSH?

What do you mean by restrictions? As in shaping?

Eg. you may only use VPN for "work" and not everything or you will be black listed if you use SFTP because the shaper can't see what you are doing:

If I want to read news24 via SSTP, download a distro via SSL or watch a porn using VPN its my business and ISP wouldn't fret about it.

You can do what you want. I download basically everything using SSL.

That's what I'm looking for. Just need to double check the mmo/gaming performance or else management (SO) wouldn't approve the change request :p

Depending on which package you go for I can run some traceroutes and latency tests for you (on my Gold Leon package) if you want me to check certain servers. Not a gamer myself so cannot provide experience on actual performance though.

Thanks. Its ok I've mailed Admin to see if I can get a test account to see how it goes.
