MrBEEP, I cannot modify my password in the client area. The link 'Click to Change Password' is not there. Why?

You can change your password from within the control panel of your member`s area

I have asked many times for access to this, but each time I get told that it does not exist and that I must just email them my new password.

Security level == none

Where are you from timmie23?

I am from Potchefstroom. Heard from a few friends that they also had issues last night on other ISPs so it was definitely a Telkom issue. It went back to normal at around 9PM-10PM.

Thanks MrBeep for checking my account and getting back to me after hours. It is really appreciated.

Hi timmie,

Thought so.

I am glad the fault is resolved though :)

Hi Mr.Beep,

I would like to know a little more about Openweb's dynamic shaping on uncapped products.

My understanding (please correct if wrong), when the network is busy, different type of protocol get prioritized to bring quality of service. For example; [FAST] Email > Normal Browsing > Streaming > Non-P2P downloading > P2P downloading and so on [SLOW].

From your product ranges, such as Standard, Silver, Gold, Platinum uncapped packages. What kind of shaping levels do each product range gives?

Platinum don’t get heavy shaping on Email, Normal Browsing, Streaming, Non-P2P downloading. P2P downloading get heavy shaping during business hours.

Gold don’t get heavy shaping on Email, Normal Browsing. Streaming, Non-P2P downloading, P2P downloading get heavy shaping during business hours.

Thanks.

Interesting question Keigo.

I would also like to know the difference; especially between the Standard and Silver Uncapped accounts.

Hi Keigo

Im afraid it is not as simple as your example.

A good start would be our Comparison Chart on our website. Please visit: http://www.openweb.co.za and look for the doggy with sunglasses.

As a rule of thumb, the lower the contention ratio, the better overall experience you will have

There is a table comparing uncapped service levels, but not as detailed as Keigo is requesting.

Just saw MrBeep mentioned the chart.

MrBeep

Is a 15% lower contention ratio on silver account significantly more noticeable when surfing and downloading (after hours) than the Standard Uncapped account speed?

Standard Uncapped ADSL (Ivory) – FREE access until end June 2013!
Standard Uncapped offers reliable, fast ADSL access on a shaped basis. After hours, when the network is quiet, we reduce, and sometimes even remove shaping entirely, so that you can catch up on those downloads! Generally, around 50% of any given month is completely unshaped!

384Kbps Standard Uncapped – R79pm!
1Mbps Standard Uncapped – R109pm!
2Mbps Standard Uncapped – R209pm!
4Mbps Standard Uncapped – R382pm!
10Mbps Standard Uncapped – R599pm!

im paying 109 from a previous promotion. so do i have this 'ivory' variation and not 'standard' standard? if you understand my meaning.

Hi akescpt

I have done some research and it seems that the ivory variation is not the 'standard' standard account. That is only my understanding, but I might be wrong. (The standard account is nearly double the monthly cost, and does not mention something about 50% of any given month is unshaped.)

yes but when i got the promotion there was no 'ivory' variation. i assumed it was 'standard' standard.

Have a few friends on Silver. It's definitely worth it over Standard.

I'm on Gold. :)

At first I was also under the impression that it was the 'standard' standard account. I think only Mr Beep can give the correct answer to this.

Ivory is a promotional account. It is what MrB33p would say, a standard account with "Tweaks" meaning it has a slightly lower contention ratio than the standard account. I am assuming this as this is exactly what was said in the Gold vs Gold promotion accounts.
