We sell a fast variety of products. Mostly IS, but have some on other networks too.

We tend to buy bulk capacity from our suppliers, and redistribute it to our userbase, with specific shaping controlled by OpenWeb. Accounts like Lite Uncapped (which is no longer commercially available) does use the Star Rating system.

Vanilla, Standard, Silver Gold and Platinum does not rate limit. Shaping is based on how busy the network is at any given time, not on your usage level.

You should not be receiving half speed at night. We generally try and unshape matters as much as possible after hours. I would like to investigate this further. Could you please PM me your username and I will take a quick look.

P.S - I like what you have done with the accounting setup.

He usually say its turned off over weekends when there actually is not shaping anyways, I have access to other ISP's IS based r seller accounts too so that is how I compare them. They all seem the same to me, if the account is on the same star and the same profile level.

That pic basically just shows you my traffic usage on the account I use, so 383GB for this month, what it estimates I will use in the month (1.1TB) if I go on at this speed, and then the graphs shows the daily usage.

It looks like I am getting full account speed again tonight. When it happens again I will PM.

The accounting setup is from an opensource graphing/monitoring system called Observium, which make monitoring everything at home easier, as well as graph the interfaces on my Mikrotik Router.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback, how many different ISPs have you tried out (and looks like you really give them a go) and how do they compare?
Open Web, Plugg, Imaginet,Web Africa are the IS based ones I think.
Can't wait to add FNB Connect and some others later on test with as well.

International downloads shaped quite a bit at the moment (getting between 300 - 400kB/sec on 10Mbit line), local running basically unshaped. I notice that international normally picks up at around midnight and then runs pretty much full speed - I'll see if that trend continues tonight.

EDIT: Looks like 11pm is the magic time (for my account at least), downloads went from 400kB/s to 1.1MB/s at exactly 11.

My line again dead slow on local remote desktop connections to servers in JHB and CPT. Before 8 it was fine, after 8 slowwwwww....
Looks like a shaping rule kicking in.

MyBB speedtest:
Local:
Test conducted on 7/11/2013 8:29:38 AM

Download Speed: 82 kbps (10.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 284 kbps (35.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 34 ms

International:
Test conducted on 7/11/2013 8:30:33 AM

Download Speed: 712 kbps (89 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 250 kbps (31.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 199 ms

Thus is a 4M line. You know something is wrong when your upload is higher that your download.

Logged slow speeds with support, it is being shaped, including Remote Desktop. This is a first, the last time i complained about slow RD connections, it was fixed on their side. Why is it being shaped now?

If we pick up RDP abuse, it is shaped as explained by Leon.

Certain clients are bypassing our traditional shaping rules by using RDP connections. If we pick up a high level of RDP use, it will be shaped with downloads on cheaper service levels.

I work from home, and between 7h00 and 16h00 I will have RDP session open to servers in JHB and CPT. Sometimes for a couple of minutes, or sometimes hours, as I actively work on the remote server. Is that seen as abuse? Surely if a client wants to bypass your rules, and use this protocol to download, he will most likely connect to overseas ips, correct? So only apply your shaping rules to RDP sessions connected to non-local ips.

Hi Mr. Beep or anybody else able to assist.

How exactly does shaping work? I'm wondering if I must go for this new mega deal from openweb, but I am scared it's not worth it.

I am definitely not an abuser of uncapped, I download between 8-26gb per month (I have seen on here people do over 200gb and that isn't seen as abuse). I use my internet basically for online gaming (weekends and after 17:00 on week nights.) I browse the net a lot and also enjoy youtube (not excessively, so I really wouldn't want it to buffer all the time.)

Let me know please

The mega deal sounds like a good option for you then - I see they are including a 8GB unshaped capped account with the package which might be a mission for some people would be really good for somebody that doesn't want to worry about issues gaming during the day. Some routers are able to schedule when it dials a certain connection so you could use the capped account from 8 to 5 and then switch to the uncapped after that. I am doing something similar with my pfSense box.

What line speed do you have?

I have honestly found these IS based OpenWeb accounts to be excellent for YouTube even during the day and I have had not had issues with buffering.

I have a 1mb line. I was thinking of giving either the uncapped or the capped account to my gf and then I use the other one. like I said, I don't download alot, but when I do download I wouldn't want it to be painfully slow. When watching youtube I watch on 360p so that it doesn;t buffer. Gaming is important to me. I don't want it to lag.

How does this mega uncapped rate vs the gamers king uncapped? Which do you thing would be better for my usage?

I am currently on the silver uncapped account, can this be upgraded to the new Mega uncapped account?

Sounds reasonable?

Great, my connection sucks big time :( Live video streaming (Twitch and GOMTV.net) is painfully slow :( Bet only youtube is unshaped 24/7. Twitch.tv is lagging on 240p right now  It's been always like this 24/7 (Yes, even at midnight) since last month.

It has been identified that the fault is with Twitch.tv themselves. We have logged a fault with them, but they have not come back to us yet

Did a search quickly online, maybe take a look at this: http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueofleg...fter_2_years_of_unwatchable_twitch_streams_i/

Have no idea what it involves, but the twitch issues seems to be quite widespread.
