OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

I understand that there can be a lot of variables which can cause the issues described above. My copper was replaced last week after a month of logging calls with Telkom. Since then my latency has been a lot better. I also got a new router to be used as an access point, even when testing with the new router the problem persists. Once I change to a capped account, Afrihost/FNB browsing is flawless, mail downloads fast and general experience improves. So the only variable that remains is the account.

Currently getting 1kb/s on the IS news server. I've tried a download on Steam, Origin and the Humble Bundle site, and they all work well. I don't think this is a problem just with me...

MrBeep could you please assist?

Also having issues with the server, I believe that it's an issue with the server and not with individual accounts.

I have asked the engineers to look into the News server issue again. They had a look yesterday, but at the time, it was running at full speed. They are currently performing further tests

MrBeep, have the engineers taken a look at the News Server by any chance?

Hi DJ

Kindly PM me so that I can test your account.

International speeds at the moment are terrible, and throttling on torrents is way overboard. Still can't get more than double digit torrent speeds on my 2MB gold uncapped account. Things have not been great on Openweb the last few weeks...

There's clearly a problem here with nntp. I've logged numerous calls and keep getting requests for traces and things like that. I've literally just gone from 500kb/s on nntp to 5, then back to 500 in the space of 10 minutes. Ping responses from local goes up to 400ms then a few minutes later back to 15 or so. Surely the NOC has some visibility of QOS here?

Are you only seeing this with NNTP, or with torrents and downloads as well?

Hello,
Similar issues on my side, had call logged since 2 days ago, issues was around BBC iplayer not working on PS3, poor quality on Revision 3 app on Roku. Now I,m keep getting disconnected from PSN network and none of the PS3 apps are loading.

We have extensively tested your specific account and could not find any issues with the listed items.

We also moved you to a completely different network, but your problem persists. This shows that the fault is either on the router, PC or line side.

If you PM me, we can try moving you to a third network. If the fault continues, then you know for sure.

Mr. Beep when can we expect a cheaper bonded ADSL solution from Openweb? I am asking because I am one of those home users that can never get more than 2MB/s line speed because I am too far from the exchange. I would love to get 4MB/s speeds with two telkom lines and pay the price but the extra R999 for just a measly 30GB is high. Can't a shaped solution be made? We pay for the setup so why is it so much more expensive than a normal 4MB line with an uncapped account? If that amount were dropped by half with an uncapped account I will probably pay for it.
As you know the only possibility of getting faster speeds is if I sell my house and move closer to the exchange, but that's not gonna happen.

Speeds are still very sporadic here on my gamers king 4mbit account, downloading at 0.80mbps and 1.1mbit

Hi DJ

Kindly PM me so that I can test your account.

Well this is the thing, it is flying at the moment with no issues, but every day without fail, during the course of office hours (and I work mostly from home) the line becomes almost unusable. It often doesn't even reach the point of saying 'connecting'. It stays on 'resolving host' for an age before reaching the 'connecting' stage. Then, like clockwork, after hours it returns to normal.

This may very well be due to exchange congestion in my area as Telkom are busy with upgrades, but it is odd because the congestion in my area (residential only) begins after 5pm, and I never had issues during the day.

I will PM you as well though...

I have reset your profile. Lets see if that does the trick.

If it doesnt, please post a tracert to www.openweb.co.za on here for us. This will soon tell whether you are experiencing exchange congestion or similar.
