Hi Prodigy

Shaping is currently applied as the network load is high.

For some reason all and sundry are downloading torrents currently.

We forecast things to improve between around 18:00 and 19:00

Breaking Bad
Dexter
Ray Donovan
Boardwalk Empire

You gotta plan for these things.

But max 30kB/s on a 2MB gold account feels incredibly unreasonable. It was, for some time, limited to around 5kB/s.

I see it is picking up to around 60kB/s now...

Block data is a good idea. I will look into it

I think your problem was related to the IP routing issue.

If it persists tonight, please email us [email protected] so that we can investigate

ohk came across a prepaid data voucher at another ISP. R35/gb. thats just crazy. looking for block data. upto a TB even. the only decent thing about the other offer is thats its valid for 3 years.

Hi DJ

Can you please try the test account I gave you earlier in the weekend

Hi MrBeep,

Torrents traffic is a little better on the test account (edit, actually running at nearly full line speed now), but:

Al subsequent hops timed out, however I can browse to microsoft.com although it does do the whole "resolving host" bit beforehand...

This seems like a DNS issue moving from the one account to the other.

I know we did some DNS configuring on Friday. Can you perhaps reset the router to factory defaults, reconfig it and see if it picks up the new DNS

I'll have to try this later on as I don't have the time to do it now...

MrBeep,

You gave me a new account last. It run fine for the most part, it did how have lots of drops. Today again, the account was not usable during the day. I cant even do a speedtest, the page wont even load. PM sent

Hi F1 Fan,

I have had a look at the account, and all seems ok. Browsing is running well on my side. Downloads are a bit slow, as the network is very busy today, but we believe things should quieten down at around 18:00 to 19:00.

Just leave your router on google dns. makes life so much easier.

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

What's the story here? Is this an easy setting to change via router admin interface? What is the default setting and how will it help me to change it to a Google DNS?

Basically Google DNS never goes down and never has issues.

It's simple to change. Will only take a few seconds.

You can change it on your PC itself, or on the router so all devices use it.

I'll poke around and check back here if further help is required.

Anything that'll help is appreciated at this stage...

Only issue with Google DNS is that it's slower than a local DNS. Not that you would notice this on our blazing fast connections in SA though :D

MrBeep, any reason why YouTube isn't buffering at full speed the past few days?
Anything wrong with the network?

I've been having similar issues on youtube. Video's wont buffer at 360p or 240p. Got home early from work today and hopped onto youtube, videos refused to buffer at even 144p. That's when I gave up.

I am getting some incredible latency spikes when playing on my OW Gold account in World of Tanks on the EU server. Even pinging openweb.co.za is coming in @ 200ms+. Yet when I switch to my afrihost 1gb account I have no issues. Anything up with the network?

Same here, even after working hours the last few days have been painful.

I am on 2Mbps ‘Gamers Delight, Downloaders Right’ – Limited Edition Uncapped ADSL

My Afrihost account is also dreadfully slow though.

I have been thinking of upgrading to business but the pricing is just a bit too steep.

Edit: I wonder if this extra load is because of new members who left MWeb for being throttled...

MrBEEP, i get that the network is busy, but shaping nntp to less than 10KB/s is taking it a bit far. I have logged a call last week about slow internet/download performance and the best that Leon could tell me is that the accounts tests fine on your 4 x test lines.

This not the first time this issues has come up, the account works fine for a couple of weeks and then grinds to a halt. Performance during the day is non existent and after hours there is minimal improvement.

Please see the PM I sent you.
