It really is a pity that daytime shaping is not being accepted.

We try our best to give the best after hours download experience, and are doing it pretty well with most evenings after 19:00 being unshaped.

Unfortunately, due to the cost of Telkom IPC, daytime access costs in excess of R12 000 per Mbps cost price.

This has to be afforded somehow.

Luckily, Telkom will now be doubling the line speeds of all clients, and of course we would need to compete, so would need to offer a similar package. One thing Telkkom neglected to do was to cut our IPC rate by 50% as we have been asking them to do over the last 9 years.

I am sorry if you feel we are being unfair. I have however noticed that OpenWeb is certainly not the only ISP that shaped during peak, and we will definitely not be the last. I notice some ISP's shape their clients 24 / 7. We are proud to say we do not do this.

I am sorry to see you leaving, but do wish you the best of luck with your new ISP, because you will need it. It is going to be an interesting 12 months.

Exact problem here - Only managing 30kB/s doing a Steam update. Already cancelled my account, but stuck with them for another month due to their 1 month cancellation notice crap.

Also, with regards to the daytime shaping policy. I would rather be shaped for being "bad" than being shaped "just because".

I have downloaded hardly anything and am being punished for it. Shaping was meant to be done as a way to prevent people from abusing the network, not as a way to cut costs. Unless I'm completely mistaken?

This is out of the IS Acceptable Usage Policy that we have to adhere to:

Maintain the integrity and quality of their services,
Protect their customers and infrastructure from abuse,
Adhere to the current laws and regulations governing organisations and service providers in the countries that they operate in
Co-exist within the global internet community as a responsible service provider.

The one that stands out to me is "Protect their customers and infrastructure from abuse". I am not abusing the system? Am I?

Hi MrBEEP, my Uncapped account is hardly working today. Took 5 minutes to receive 200KB's worth of emails, and I couldn't even finish loading a webpage let alone run a Speedtest. I'm using a free Afrihost account to post this.

Sending details to support.

I would be more than happy to place you on a package that shapes you based on your usage rather than based on how busy the network is at any given time.

How much are you paying per month for your account and what account type is it?

We will do the sums quickly and see how we can accommodate you.

They will investigate the matter for you.

For some reason I cannot find a mail from you objecting to this during the signup process when you agreed to the Terms of Service.

Kindly forward me the ticket number where you object during signup so that I can investigate.

Ok thanks, was just trying to think of why one would need to give an entire month for cancellation.

Good day MrBEEP,

Mind me asking, it has been said that teamview may be shaped (because some people abuse the system via it), but for the life of me I can't even log in form work to my home PC at all? Been like that for a while now (more than 2 weeks).

At work we have 2mb Gold Leon acc and at home I have 1mb Standard acc.

Looking forward to your reply/suggestion.

Things have improved slightly, since I can post this on my Ucapped account. But pages still don't always finish loading, and an HTTP/FTP download like Firefox 25, runs at less than 8KB/s on this account.

I think you are in the minority here. More OW are very very happy with their shaping policy and wouldn't change it for the world. Now, the daytime shaping does suck, but if you are on any package other than Gold, then I really don't think you can complain. I pay R226 a month (not gold) and I download around 200gbs, all after hours when the network is unshaped. My daytime downloading is terrible, I can browse and download attachments fine but NZB' and torrents won't work. Am I complaining? No. Because Im getting what Im paying for.

Am on gold :) I usually used to average about 120gb per month with my previous provider. So I don't use a lot. My usage though can be quite sporadic when looking at the times of the usage. That's kinda why the policy doesn't work out so well.

I must say though, it looks like we've probably fixed the issues and all is well:) thanks MrBEEP!

Kindly PM me.

Thanks in advance for looking into it. Couldn't bear it anymore. Moved back to my free Afrihost account.
The last thing I want is to end up with an inferior quality replacement account just because my existing
one stopped working.

I've had it pretty good up until now. :(

Gold pretty much changes things. I think with Gold, you should get good speeds at any given time. Perhaps not full speeds, but atleast 70%. And the only reason I say this is cause Gold is similarly priced to Afrihost Business, which gives you 24/7 full speed.
