struggling with throughput. all green but connection is up and down like a roller coaster. browsing will be available but then nntp is at 0. frustrating night.

Not the weather wreaking havoc? That's been my issue all evening...

no wind, nothing. will have to go buy a damn adsl filter/splitter. had no dail tone so techie did some testing. isolated it to the filter. was not working for the phone. no dail tone. adsl was perfect.

now tonight this. will have to get a filter now to rule that out. dammit. whats really weird is what i mentioned before. all protocols work except no throughput on nntp. concerned about that.

edit: there it is again. nntp at full blast then just as if someone presses the brake. slows down to 0. so im posting this from my laptop browser. these days im using a paid nntp server as well. checked balance and thats fine. just unplugged and connected the adsl connections again.

edit 2: nntp flying again. changed ports. heres hoping the connection stays flat

From Monday my day time speeds is very very very sloooooooooooow. Gmail battles to connect, even local sites like myBB battling to open, takes about 2 minutes to totally open. Even Openweb support site takes more that a minute to open.

Every morning at 8:05 it becomes slow.

myBB speedtest works for JHB en international, but Cape Town test can't complete.

International:
Download Speed: 42 kbps (5.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 310 kbps (38.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 199 ms

JHB:
Download Speed: 3488 kbps (436 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 346 kbps (43.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 35 ms

CPT:
Download Speed: error
Upload Speed: error
Latency: 45 ms

Swapped accounts to FNB connect and all the speedtest is perfect.

Is there fault on cpt line?

I did log a fault at support.

Fine here, actually surprisingly quick this morning :D

i thought we agreed you would stop posting line stats:p

That high ping makes me think you have a line issue or exchange congestion. What does a traceroute look like?

Already even had a Telkom tech called out.
Now theyve charged me a R230.57 unnecessary "callout to exchange" fee and are now further threatening to add another R924.54 for unnecessary "callout to premises" fee...

Either way, my SNR and LA are good, everything runs perfect after hours.
Im starting to think it might be JINX that is falling apart, or maybe the IPC's over there...

I dunno anymore.
All I know is my wife is going to rip my b***s out when those "fees" get charged...

Get your evidence together and present it to them.

I would suggest the following:

1. Connect to the Telkom guest account (user:[email protected] pass:guest)
2. Run a speedtest at http://www.saix.net/
3. Run a traceroute to www.saix.net.
4. Repeat at various times of the day.
5. Document data in an easy to read way.
6. Present to Telkom.

If you have everything in order and it clearly shows something is wrong they cannot claim your fault is unnecessary.

im on the 4meg standard uncapped but im having endless trubles in the day i cant even get on 90% of https sites and if i try to download something it just do about 1 meg and completely stop.
but in the evening everything is fine and on youtube the video does not even load. most sites does not want to load. but as soon as i use afrihost everything is fine

I had this problem too.

The OW 'shaper' 'shapes' everything if you're downloading. IE, if you have P2P or NNTP on your account (and it's running slowly), your whole browsing experience will be slow. IE, throttled.

Semantics.

To fix the problem, all P2P & NNTP must be switched off.

I worked from home yesterday- I experimented a bit and the web is usable when all DL has been off for a while. As soon as I turn anything back on, it goes to **** again.

YMMV.

gamers 4mbps vs orange gold 4mbps

is it wroth the exstra 250+pm more?

gimme a reson to paymore
i do alot of streaming

i pay 226 for games 2mbps

Only YouTube? Your steaming must be good if you doing alot of it.

no

i work in the day
so only from 6am and weekends

but i may let some download run in the day,not every day but somedays
that why i am thinking of the gamers one its cheaper and will work
but wondering if the R200 more will let me stream more stable and faster

youtube streams at half the speed, and is just crap at streaming
so i thought the exstra piority will make it better

Heyo People

I come in peace from the Afrihost Thread. I was just wondering what the shaping is like on a 10Mbps Everyday Uncapped.

Im just wondering, as the new prices are quite good
