restart your router
and use a diffrent dns
opendns or level3

Tried those and right now everything has grounded to a halt. It's surprising that support say the account is running fine on their side.

Support tests the account on their own lines. They don't look at how it's performing on yours. If the account itself works for them, the problem has to be with your modem, routing or physical line.

Well I tested my line with a 4mb uncapped account from mweb and everything runs 100%, steam browsing etc. Can't be with my line then.

Line runs fine across 2 capped accounts.

I PM'd MrBeep, hoping for some solution.
I have heard that resetting your modem and then re-entering your Openweb details sometimes does the trick.

So got home today and couldn't log on, keeps getting authentication failed...

Update: Thanks to Leon its resolved!

Hey All

Just a test for anyone struggling with speeds intermittently. Now this may have no impact in your particular case, but it is worth a try.

I did this and it seems ( at least for now ), to have made a difference for me.

If you use Unotelly to stream Netflix or Hulu etc. You need to use a particular DNS service ( Dynamo ) as we all know. If you have set this DNS IP on your router, this gets used automatically when your pc/laptop/mobile device connects via your router's Wifi/Ethernet connection.

Now, what I have done is just to manually override my DNS settings on the router by manually entering the Google DNS server ( 8.8.8.8 ) on my laptop and then trying whichever service was slow before. This seems to have made a difference for me.

Now I know it is just a DNS entry which doesn't make sense, but if you think about it, Unotelly spoofs an international IP so that for particular services - your pc appears to be in a different location ( USA, UK or wherever )..

So....

Try that and see if it helps at all.

Cheers !

This makes sense as when you use an overseas DNS, you get pointed to servers in that region so downloads you try will be forced to come from overseas which is generally shaped more and just usually slower. Thanks for sharing.

Not sure how this would work though. If you need to use Unotelly's DNS to be able to connect to the service in the first place, then entering Google's DNS won't change that. Your PC can't run through two DNS servers, can it? You should still be running through the Unotelly DNS, otherwise you won't be able to use Hulu or BBC iPlayer.

Are there better services than Unotelly?

yes,

try hola! unblocker
its free
and it got more than one server (dns) u can use

and it works 100%

i pay R100 more for the gamers 4mbs (line from telkom and data at openweb)
and i am happy with it
and no trotteling etc

Have you guys seen Afri's prices? Thoughts?

Regardless of their prices, their policies are rather stringent. Their shaping isn't relegated to peak hours unlike OpenWeb. I would rather pay more here with OpenWeb.

I think their prices are quite good. If I took a 2meg Gold and the 2 meg line from Telkom, I would pay R465 per month. I could have business uncapped 2 meg for R497, which is unshaped 24/7 and would beat Gold hands down.

That said, Im not really willing to spend that much.

If you are planning to take money from people why no at least tell them when you do so? Am i not making sense here ? Am i not a valued client? Now the R 100 penalty will become my responsibility?

www.mygaming.co.za www.hellopeter.com www.sagamer.co.za https:twitter.comkeomawright https:www.facebook.commyopenweb I will post all of the tickets between myself and OpenWeb and take this public. (PERSONAL DETAILS) My attorney above has advised me of the following: 1. Debit order facility req needs to be sigd by client not internet 2. Debit changes req 10 WORKING days 3. this pross is req by the automated clearing bureau and baking reqs 4. nothing more deflecting from the above is legal 5. Clients must be advised of decuctions prior to chose date. I knew i would get a generic reply from Open web treat clients like this because you think you can? I really thought you guys were awesome till now but i guess im just a digit. Could you have not said that for the inconvienienced caused open web will discount me on the grounds that i will now pay penalty fees with the bank? So i think i have a solid case here.

Hi Grant, Pro rata debits deduct a few days after your account is upgraded. Normal debits deduct on the 1st working day of each month Kind regards Leon Client Care Executive

I understand that it is pro rata thats not the problem here my debit order is set for a date and i expect that payments go off on that day open web have debited me on a date prior to my chosen debit order run date. where was i advised in all of the tickets that my debit order will go off prior to the normal debit order run date. I get paid on the 27th of each month and i think im being treated unfairly here. I pay my accounts each month i have never skipped. I have refered so many people to Open web so far and this is the treatment i now get. Leon i would like to be a customer with you guys for as long as possible please dont let something this silly allow me to take my business elswhere think about it there was no warning that i needed to pay prior to the debit order date if you had told me i would have made sure its done.....

I GET PAID ON THE 27th of each month I was on a 2mb gamers bling account and upgraded to 4 meg gamers. Now this is where things get strange i get a sms this morning saying R170 was deducted now the debit order with you guys goes off from the 1st of each month since i left telkom to join you guys. The payment has bounced and now there are penalty fees i have to pay fnb how can this be sorted out because it is very unprofessional to not advise clients about this u can see all my accounts are paid on time and i only get paid the 27 th of each month. How is this going to be sorted out.
