So what is the deal with the high latency... seems to be a common trend.
When I was with MWEB, 20mS pings(local) and 135mS pings (int'l) were common.
If OpenWeb is significantly worse than that, then its useless to me.

135 ms to where? Namibia?

UK is about 170 ping on OW.
 
Upgraded:2meg to 4meg today!!!!

Check speed test:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 3240 kbps (405 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 404 kbps (50.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 42 ms

Now I need to know the following. I'm currently on a 2 meg still by openweb, and havent upgraded the line speed by them. My router shows 4 meg down. Will I see an "more" increase in downloading by speedtest if I upgrade by Openweb to 4meg line.

Cape Town 1.3mb/sec
Jhb 1.4mb/sec
International 1.2mb/sec

After the upgrade (using a 2mb O/W service it was)
Cape Town 3.2mb/sec
Jhb 3.3mb/sec
Intermational 2.1 mb/sec

Mr Beep gave me a week trial using a 4mb service
It is now
Cape Town 3.4mb/sec
Jhb 3.5mb/sec
International 3.3 mb/sec

So, apart from the faster international, very little change

Why not ask him for a week's trial and try it? You might benefit a lot. Send him a PM
 
As far as I know, Latency does not change with speed. But it is the speed that counts!

So im in Cpt at parents place and it appears there is a problem here.. Anyone know what the issue is? basically I saw during the day they were getting max 200Kbps and now at night getting max 430Kbps :( :(

The tracert is even stranger as there appears to be some latency on the 2nd hop. This is a 2Mbps uncapped gold account on a not yet upgraded 1Mbps line. It was working fine on MWeb until switched.. so confused. My place in Pta works perfects so kinda confused where its sucking here in Cpt

So whom do I whine to? Telkom? or ISP/Openweb? The router stats seem ok.. so really dunno at this point. The interesing thing is that the ADSL line is currently not with Telkom but with Cybersmart whom whine like hell when we wanted to revert back to Telkom(no idea why) so not sure if they do limiting too? Surely its just admin if they not provided ISP services.. :-/

hrm.. seems to be working now within norm / close to 1Mbps. very very odd.. will will watch over it while im in cpt
 
That's definitely a Telkom issue, most likely exchange congestion.

Yah the ping times are just hectic.. I've never seen it that bad like ever.. except from way way back when on gprs haha.. will call Telkom Monday and whine
 
Quick Question

My 2mb account was so slow last night - normal web browsing seemed fine but P2P was shaped down to 2kb/s . Switched to my MWEB uncapped - 100kb/s + (1mb account). In the two weeks since joining openweb it has been issue upon issue upon issue. Last night sent an email to Client Support and I get threatened with their lawyers ?? Has anyone experienced this before ?

Edit - I have a Gamers / Downloaders Account which is marketed on the basis of those items prioritised (especially after midnight).
 

I complained about being shaped/bad service on a supposedly gaming/downloaders account after midnight on a weekend and said that the boss of OW should be ashamed of the service they provide ... and got a legal threat in response ..... Classy outfit !

Yeah post the legal threat so we all know what not to say to support.
 
Not a single swear word or anything ! I said that Keoma should be ashamed with the service they provide and obviously that was a bad thing to say .... Live and Learn ... Glad I sent in my cancellation last week already ..... not the kind of outfit I want to be associated with ...

Never, ever had issues of that kind. OW service is beyond excellent despite issues regarding shaping during business hours. MrBeep is always on the ball.

Actually I do agree - Got good service from Dane and also from Mr Beep . And the fact that the support department gave me yet another account to try is commendable. But should I be required to mail them twice a week to get a new account to add to my router ? Maybe you folks are happy to live like that but I don't think it is the way it is supposed to be or maybe I live in lala land. This is Africa after all. In any event, the only reason I posted was to ask if someone had had a similar experience but it seems like nobody has which is good for you all . Everyone now have a great Sunday !

As an aside - shaping during business hours is 100% . Shaping after midnight on a Saturday ? You do the math ...
