OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

Thank you for your interest in OpenWeb.

The rule of thumb is, the more you pay, the more you get.

By paying more you decrease your contention ratio (amount of people you share capacity with) and increase your priority on the network, allowing for an overall Premium experience.

I am considering Everyday Uncapped 4mbs, what are the disadvatages of this package compare to others? I assume this excludes ADSL line. would i get 4mb after hours? if so, then how does it differ from gold or platinum 4mb line?

Does this seem like a bad line?

My line speed is 4Mbps but my Openweb account is still on 2Mb (Gold). Rather that than being shaped a lot on an everyday uncapped 4Mb account.

Any issues with NNTP tonight - be it OpenWeb or IS?
Streaming and browsing is all fine, just can't connect to IS news server

Edit @ 20h33: 45 minutes later it seems to be working

Edit @20h47: Worked for all of 5 minutes :/

After contacting openweb earlier today they recreated my port but to no avail, my download speeds are still bouncing between 50kb/s and 350kb/s every 2-3 seconds... Can someone please give me advise as to what the cause could be?

My internet speeds have been very unstable the past few days. Other than that, the past few months were awesome.

I have a Gold 4mbps account and speedtest.net can hardly hit 2mbps. Traceroute seems fine. Am I sensing throttling from OW...?!? Dum DUm DUUUUUUM!

Hi mr beep, sent you a pm about a test account. Please have a look when u have a chance. Tnx

So let me guess... we have people in this thread moaning and blaming the ISP because the DSLAM/MSAM is poked, and/or the exchange is congested and/or due to the recent rains we've had the cables are wet.

This is good enough for me. I am saving money and scoring. Case closed

Really now, YOUR account works thus we are all wrong.

It started well for me too...

I came from mweb where downloads and customer support did not exist, to openweb and everything went well till the issues started. From then on the account you get from mweb was a hundred times better. ignorance is bliss

Guys, is OW through IS? Do they use the star rating system here as well?

Also, is there throttling and shaping? Or just shaping?

Tnx

I'm looking to move from Mweb, but wanted to first find out how the latency is with online games?
Dota 2 i'm currently getting 40-50ms with Mweb. How is the 2mb Openweb Gamers account with dota 2?
Before I make a move.

We do not use the Star rating system, as we manage our own capacity with IS.

We only shape, we do not throttle :)

Awesome, i stay in town where there is little of people using ADSL after hours.... Standard OpenWeb 4mb could be sufficient... What do you think?

So yeah I have been dealing with support for a bloody long time. Initially I was told my line was the issue so I phoned Telkom and they sorted that out then the problem still persisted. Phoned OpenWeb and after awhile they recreated my routing table (think thats what they said), everything seems to be alright for the weekend and after Monday *boom* dead again. So after the round of Tuesday calls they recreated the table again and guess what? Dead, dead, dead... :/

Attached are the various speed tests to multiple different servers but all local. Only one showing me over and above what I am paying for is Telkom everything else 56k at best. :wtf::confused: Love how my uploads are always at full tilt...

*Speedtest.net is still running, refuses to finish by the look of it. And no I am not downloading anything right now...

*edit* Should add at night it is 100%...

This is exactly what I experienced. What account did you get from openweb?

You can NOT go through customer support at openweb! They will tell you it is your line etc etc

Pm mrbeep, only he can resolve this their support have not been able to help me with this issue for 6 months.

@iJasper The download just sits there at 0 B/s with a start to 33kb then back to 0. So yeah tests are surprisingly accurate ;).

@bgotapen I was on the Gamers King account with no issues at all. Then I decided that I could afford the Gold account with a bump in line speed and requested a upgrade since then this problem has existed. So I would be inclined to say that maybe my Exchange can't handle the increase or that it is congested yet tracert shows good times and Telkoms own speed test shows full line speed. Any international traffic and to some extent local traffic is near impossible to use.

This is an GOLD only problem it seems and openweb's support will tell you that you are shaped or your line they will basically refuse to fix it.

I then p.m mr beep and he fixes it, unfortunately it only works for a week or so till the issues start again. Thus I canceled.

It is working fine now, much better than mweb ever has but I know it is going to stop working and it will be another month to fix it.
