and it keeps going on...

Sorry, yes it will carry on forever.

Trying to check for consistency. There seem to be a few bumps but not too bad, unless you were browsing or something same time.

You can also try ping -n 100 ip address (which will ping 100 times - do this with an idle line) and see what your min and max ping is at the end of the test. If it's bouncing around then could be exchange related, if it is, try with another ISP on different backbone/network, if that does something similar then you have telkom problems.

Could also only be certain times of the day so try this test again when you having problems if its not all the time.

You guys sure it wasn't school kids taking advantage of the extra speed? Would you guys consider another test phase, maybe the first week of March or so?
It's like giving a bergie a bottle of Old Brown and then taking it away when he's only half way ;)

I think they were only able to do this test over the holidays as there was less load on the network therefore spare capacity to open up the accounts to max speed.

Thanks a lot for the educational replies :) :) :) I will bookmark this post for future references. I really need to get to the bottom of this. Tomorrow the issue might come back to kick in my face :(

The network has been completely unshaped since 22:00.

If you experienced slow speeds the fault is more than likely on your side. aka Router, config, Telkom line etc.

current average 153kbps. at 21.33 on a friday night... sad :(

I am currently testing 3 uncapped accounts from different ISPs.
On Usenet download I get half speed (500KB/s) on my 10Meg line using TITAN.
Switched to another ISP uncapped account, and getting full speed (1000KB/s).

What do I make of this, other than its being shaped?

My guess is even the network is unshaped, user is still get priority over different level of accounts.

I stand to be corrected. :)

Why is it that I can never consistently get full speed on NNTP during unshaped weekends? My line is absolutely fine, this is starting to become annoying now.

Contention ratios will still come into play.

Titan is an entry level product, with a high contention ratio.

Unshaped means no protocols prioritization. All traffic is treated equally.

It does not mean guaranteed full speed 24 / 7

I am currently testing 3 uncapped accounts from different ISPs.
On Usenet download I get half speed (500KB/s) on my 10Meg line using TITAN.
Switched to another ISP uncapped account, and getting full speed (1000KB/s).

What do I make of this, other than its being shaped?

The Assassins creed was probably being downloaded from a busy or overloaded server.

The network is looking good at this stage.

For some strange reason my assassins creed update is crawling, 5-30kB/s, but my dota update flew 350-420kB/s

Unshaped means no protocols prioritization. All traffic is treated equally.

If this is indeed the case then why is HTTP, FTP and POP so much faster than Streaming and
P2P during business hours?

Note: I'm not complaining, just asking. ;)

There is shaping during business hours. MrBEEP was just explaining the difference between contention and being unshaped.

So, during unshaped times (weekday evenings and weekends) when all traffic is treated equally, and there is a high contention ratio (cheap accounts), then expect slower throughput.

Been getting half my line speed after hours/weekends on a 2meg Gold Original (R299 p/m)
Full speed only from around 1AM to about 8AM lately. Used to be full speed from 5PM in the week,
and all weekend long on this Gold.

I'm thinking I might as well go for the 2Meg Everyday uncapped for R104 less.
Can someone with one of those acc's give me some feedback pls??
