Everything running smoothly again today (Gold (Power) 4Mbps). YouTube streaming at 720p without stutters.

(Noticed something odd when running speed tests to the local MWEB speedtest server. Full download throughput until about halfway through, then it slows down. Consistently exhibited this behaviour. Screenshot from test - see what how the download speed drops:

Anyway, don't know what it means, but I found it odd. The other Durban speedtest servers don't do the same thing. Just tested to the MWEB Cape Town and Johannesburg speedtest servers and they do the same thing… :wtf:)

Mr Beep what is it if the ping is ok but the pages is so slow? Usually international.

My newest issue now is that one of the openweb account are unable to connect to any international site such as facebook.com etc.

Kindly drop me a PM so that I can take a look for you

More than likely.

Telkom is currently suffering because of their 'lets double the entire countries speed but not worry about upgrading' decision.

Give it to them, they are upgrading some exchanges, but very slowly.

Mr beep i phoned telkom and did dslam reset again.
Seems to be better now.
i wonder if there might be congestion somewhere on my telkom connection maybe.
Thank you

There is something wrong with those MWEB speedtest servers.

Here is MWEB server Cape Town:

Anyone else having youtube issues?

Not able to stream 480p at all on my account. I have to set it down to 360p just to watch anything and its really annoying...

Bothasig / Edgemead / Richwood area

I'm having issues playing dota 2 on SA servers. Game starts lagging like crazy and team speak becomes so broken and muffled. Restart modem and all is fine for a while then does it again.

All other games are fine, from Rust to COD to DAYz and BF4.

Morning friends,

I wish you only the best for today!

Shaping is based on how busy the network is at any given time.

P2P gets the lowest priority on the network, as it is unfortunately very greedy

P2P is still being shaped to death on my account

You should have a constant ping going next time you play to check if you're having packet loss.

My 10mb Gamer King is still running beautifully. Latency is low, downloads are only shaped to 60% at the moment, and this is mid-day on a Wednesday! Everything is lightning-quick :D

OpenWeb manages to do a sterling job when Telkom plays by the rules. I'm on the Durban / Morningside (Gordon Road) exchange, for anyone wondering.

Things were really slow yesterday. Couldn't even stream music and it continued into the early hours of the morning. Today though everything seems fine again.

Thanks for checking!

I'm going to keep an eye out for those servers in future as they have some of the lowest latencies - and therefore end up getting auto-selected by speedtest quite often. Nothing like dodgy speedtest results when you're already feeling the pain of connection issues…

What are Afrihost's throttling polices like compared to other ISPs? How's the performance for stuff like Twitch.tv, Youtube and gaming? Any feedback I'd appreciate, looking to switch ISPs ;)

shaping != throttling.

Twitch.tv's horribly slow during daytime.
