International speeds are still pathetic and still no reply from OpenWeb. This is really unlike them. I usually get replies within an hour of sending the mail, so I think there might be a serious fault on the network somewhere and they've got their hands full with it.

Finally managed to load speedtest.

Local;

International;

Still no response here either.

Hi Guys

This is related to the Internet Solutions IPC issue.

I believe the upgrade will be going through this week. This will mean the issue should be resolved for good!

Graal, you had some routing issues according to Calvin. He did reply directly to you.

This is not an IPC issue is it? Or local speeds would be affected too. This is about international speeds being throttled to death. How about some truth, Mr Beep? Seriously, what is going on?

International Openweb 4MB Gold:

Test conducted on 01 October 2012 03:28:53 PM
Download Speed: 80 kbps (10 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 380 kbps (47.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 225 ms

International Afrihost 4MB capped

Test conducted on 01 October 2012 03:33:50 PM
Download Speed: 3465 kbps (433.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 386 kbps (48.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 232 ms

International is not being actively throttled.

kilobits, are you on a 4MB Gold account, paying a small fortune each month? No. So your post is not relevant to the problem. This daytime international throttling problem is an issue facing Gold 4MB clients over the past two weeks. Even cheaper standard accounts are performing better during daytime.

Yoops... OK. Forget my IS 1Mb speedtests then. Hope you get sorted.

Hi, yes, thanks. Calvin sorted it for me and it's running well again now.

Just hope all the 384-1024 upgrades don't cause people to absolutely abuse their lines and cause issues on the infrastructure. Going to moderate my downloads so I don't waste any unnecessary bandwidth.

I'm curious. How many of you guys on the 4mb gold uncapped are paying the R738pm...? Is the only way to get the "special" offers that get sent to us all the time to leave openweb and wait for one of these specials...?

I am on the buy one get one free special (2 Active 4mb gold Accounts), I believe I got a really good deal. I think you can upgrade your line speed but I am not sure, maybe you can wait for a really good deal on the platinum accounts.

Dude, nothing is stopping you from taking out a special account and cancelling your old one. You're going to pay double for one month, but you can get a special account if you want one.

You honestly can't expect MrBeep to change all of his old customers accounts to special accounts each time a special comes around. OpenWeb still has to make money and these specials are meant to rope in new people.

What's the current specials for new clients?
Can't get hold of then on the phone and the 4mb uncap special on their site looks like is was for September, but not sure.?

This "buy one get one free special" sounds interesting. Is it still valid and where can I get more info?

Please, a quick answer is needed as I'm going to create 4mb uncap account with Mweb in the next few hours.

1Mbps Gold Uncapped – R239pm (Normal Price: R329)
2Mbps Gold Uncapped – R359pm (Normal Price: R398)
4Mbps Gold Uncapped – R649pm (Normal Price: R738)
6Mbps Gold Uncapped – R829pm (Normal Price: NEW!!)
10Mbps Gold Uncapped – R1599pm (Normal Price: R1799)

They had one a while back where you could get two 4mb accounts for the price of one, but it's probably long over.

Hi All

My budget now allows me to pay more for internet, my ADSL line syncs at 5 mbps and I'm considering the 4mbps gold uncapped unshaped package for R899 pm

My question are
1) Is it reliable, will I really get full 4 mbps speeds all day regardless of it being for youtube, steam, torrents , nntp ?
2) If an undersea goes down will I be completely down / partially affected / not affected at all
3) And can I really download as much as I want without any abuse warnings etc

Thanks for all you advise
I was on afrihost but they half everyones speeds during working hours and I never get full speeds on torrents regardless of the time of day

If you buy an unshaped product, yes. Obviously you can't expect full 4mbps speeds all day long if you're on a shaped product.

I also asked Mr Beep question 1. The reply was that the account is unshaped until bandwidth usage reaches 150 GB, thereafter it will perform like the 4MB Gold shaped account and be shaped during business hours.

From experience, you wont get any abuse notices from OpenWeb.
