Hi there I switched from afrihost to openweb games delight package but I seem to be getting line disconnects sometimes could it be because of openweb or Afrihost who I have my line with?

Have you eliminated the chance of the problem being with the line itself (Telkom)?

Hi Mr Beep, i'm on the 1mb/s Gold uncapped and i gert full speed on the news servers but browsing and video streaming is really bad. Http downloads run at full speed too. Is this normal on the IS network?

How do eliminate it?

Does this happen when you use other ISP accounts? Did it happen when you were using Afrihost?

Test the connection with an account from another ISP and if the issue still occurs then it is most likely a fault with Telkom and you should log a fault with them. If it runs fine with the other ISP then it is less likely to be a Telkom issue and follow up with the OpenWeb support.

I noticed that it started just when I switched over.Though it mainly happens at night,do you think I should follow up with Openweb?

Is that the LAN stats from my modems configauration page?

Not LAN stats, it should be DSL stats, Line Statistics or something like that - and yes it should be somewhere on the modem config page.

It will show things like Line Attenuation, Noise Margin, etc.

Tested OpenWeb last night as I am leaving my old ISP, was very happy with the performance of the connection, now if I can just get someone to phone me back so I can discuss options....oh well the hunt for a new ISP continues...

Hi Arrival,

Please configure these settings in your router:

Primary DNS: 168.210.2.2
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Then, please call Telkom on 10210 and have them check the health of your line

Please provide feedback

I noticed that it started just when I switched over.Though it mainly happens at night,do you think I should follow up with Openweb?

Hi brian,

I would also advise the DNS router as per above.

Yep, those stats don't look too good. Any small fluctuations on the line may cause you to lose connection. See this thread for explanations to this: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/186156-Understanding-SNR-and-Attenuation-Rates

Agreed. You are very far from the exchange: Attenuation (dB):57. Your SNR is ok around 12 but the distance is almost certainly the cause of your disconnects. You could temporarily ask telkom or whoever owns your line, to set it down too 512. Test for a day or so and then report back.

You could also try to improve things by getting a "Pada" approved Dlink 2500U cheapo modem (150). These tend to have a chip that handles low SNR in a better way. No promises though.

Contacted Telkom, they reset my adsl port and said there's a loss of signal on the line, their technicians will try and sort it out on their side tomorrow. Also tried Mr Beep's DNS and seems to be working fine for the moment. Let's wait and see

MrBeep, you guys are doing an amazing job. I haven't had any complaints in months. The other night I had some slow browsing speeds, and it turned out that some knob in the house switched the router to our Telkom account.

Hi Zewp,

It gives us great joy to please you :)
