I was afraid you would say that.

I was keeping my eye on Gold Uncapped special, then i emailed support and they said "We sold the last one this morning".

Is that special coming back at all anytime soon? As far as budget, i have a 1mb line and can only spend R190-R220 on my data account.

I cancelled my data account with WebAfrica in hopes of getting Gold Uncapped on special month end (cannot pay twice during the month :( and already payed for my data account this month )

Now im left looking for a good ISP and good account to work with.

Why not try the Vanilla special? You can upgrade if the Gold special comes around again.

Well then im stuck where i started, having to wait until the end of the month to cancel the Vanilla account to get the special. lol

Plus im abit scared i might get poor speeds when shaped, happened to me with WebAfrica and Afrihost - I cancelled with both of them.

For me i need good latency for gaming and enough current bandwidth to use TS3 without lagging.

Evening MrBEEP,

What is the AUP policy on the Gold Accounts? I have read the IS AUP.

Wanting to find out when do they start limiting you? And what happens then?

I am on the Capped 50GB account and am getting pings to London of 184ms from Cape Town.

I am very happy and the service is great.

Hey Amphibious,

Shaping is based on how busy the network is at any given time. Not on your usage.

On average, on Gold Uncapped around 65% of any given month is unshaped.

Disregard the IS AUP. Openweb buys capacity from them, but they employ their own shaping policies, as far as I know.

Either way, I would probably be considered a heavy user (upwards of 100gb a month on 1mb) and I've never been deprioritized or throttled.

I signed up with openweb last night after ditching Afrihost. I grabbed one of their promo vanilla 1MB accounts. Internet bliss :) very happy with performance

Anyone having problems with Black Ops 2? My internet seems fine but for some random reason I cant connect and according to the BO2 status page all services are online.

Had problems to get on the black ops xbox server too. Working noe though.

Just a question

Your current packages ("non special")

Which uncapped packages have gaming prioritized?

Hi Grizz,

From Silver up, gaming is prioritized.

Just want to thanks Openweb, after struggling with Webafrica and Afrihost I started to associate "Uncapped" with poor download speeds and tons of shaping. Since my move the start of this month to the limited edition 2Mbps GDDR Uncapped account everything has been flying. Full line speeds when I need to use it, ping is on average about 50 lower than it was on Afrihost. Keep up the good work :)

Hi.

I see IS is saying something about free wifi access.

I have a 1mb upcapped account with Openweb. I understand this is with IS right? I might be wrong though.
Do I then also get this free Wifi data?

I'm on a 4mb Silver Uncapped right now and I seem to be experiencing heavy shaping of international traffic in all forms during the day right now.

I can understand shaping torrents and usenet downloads during weekdays but it's not cool when a webcomic page takes 1 minute to load the complete image and I can't stream youtube at the lowest resolution because it takes 10 minutes to buffer 1 minute of video.

Sure, the ping is better than my Axxess account but the download speeds seem to be the price.

I must ask, honestly is it worth my while to switch to openweb?? i threatened afrihost last week via twitter that i will be ditching them for openweb im currently on a 6GB + 1GB free capped account with Afrihost TBH ive never tested my speed, thing is my AH capped account costs me R87 whereas OW current special will cost me a measly R22 more for uncapped... Afrihost responded with there clever marketing tactic of i quote "We have some awesome upgrades planned, we think it would be worth your while to stick with us ;) - @Afrihost" hmmmm what to do...

Ask MrBeep for a test account and make up your mind.

I was with Afrihost for a while too. I didn't have a test account, but was familiar with the good support of Openweb. Just decided to go for the 384 Gold Uncapped as a test run for 2 months. Now I have a 2MB ADSL line, with Telscum, and a 2MB account.

P.S. Openweb does not do the managing of the ADSL lines yet, but surely they'll think about it in the future.
