Just a few things, I have sent an email to support and got an automated response this morning, no response since then, I wanted to know where I can check my usage and also where I can register an openweb email address? Also an issue regarding my debit order or the lack thereof which need to be rectified if it is in fact not a debit order.

My ticket number is FTX-481-53002

Thanks

Well I'm absolutely loving my Openweb account. MWEB cannot compare. I'm on Silver 8Mbps uncapped:

THIS STILL WORKS

HOW DO YOU NOT TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THIS!!! AMAZING!

And to think that I was about to sign up to a subscription service of 10USD/month.

MrBeep, you now have - without a doubt - the single best service offered in the country.

(For the love of goodness, tell people about this:D)

Just out of interest sake: I used this to setup a vpn connection to my home network (Just because I can and always wanted to :P ). Its awesome, no DDNS needed :D Just added me.dns.openweb.co.za, username and password as per router setup and bam, done :D

Side note: My download speeds have been awesome, I get about 60% - 70% of my line speed during the day on torrents and close to 100% at night, just need to figure out QoS now...

Thanx Openweb!!

Good day MrBEEP

I've been testing the Gamers King (Downloaders Bling) for the past day and must say I am quite pleased with it so far. I do however have one question regarding the following.

It states "Downloads will be prioritized on our Gold Uncapped level After Hours.". From my testing this appears to be referring to p2p downloads. Does this in fact also apply to http downloads as well or are those exempt from the shaping?

I'm none too fussed about p2p being shaped during the day, but I would not like my http experience to be hampered in any way.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Isengard,

The obvious HTTP download sites will be shaped - Eg One click hosting etc.

However, legitimate downloads, eg Microsoft, Apple etc will not be

Thanks for the reply. I do not use file sharing websites, but services such as PSN and Steam are my primary use when it comes to http downloads and as such it would be best if they were not shaped. I will be testing out PSN tonight and based on the performance there I very likely will sign up for this account.

@akescpt
I played Guild Wars 2 last night and the ping was great. I might test out a PS3 game tonight.

The PSN isn't exactly known for line speed downloads. Unless you have a slow line rather test your speeds with Steam or the PS3 proxy.

MrBEEP, I have tried to resolve this billing query with your team but I received no useful feedback. I activated the OpenWeb 2-for-1 silver uncapped promotion on 25 February 2013 and on 27 February I was debited for R164.50. This amount is 50% of the advertised price of R329.

As I mentioned to your team, nowhere on the advertisement did it state that I will be billed 50% of the advertised amount, instead it stated “pro-rata billing for the rest of February 2013”. I remember clearly that the promotion for the “Standard uncapped” account had the dates and the pro-rata percentages for usage for the rest of February, but not the ad for the “2-for-1 silver uncapped promotion”. I find this unacceptable as I was billed for 50% instead of the R47 ((329/28)*4 for the four days of usage and I was not notified of this.

Please can you provide feedback.

I can also pull a dick move and let the debit order bounce.

By there policy's a dispute should be mediated. I do not accept that OW are milking money for an account i do not wish to have.
If they can create an account within minutes - they can cancel one.

In there terms it says what you say yes.. but paying twice? screw that. Im not going to let this go.. ill go through every avenue of OW if i have to until they can handle a "pathetic" R179 loss to the company

Once again. You agreed to their terms when you signed up. The terms suited you then. The terms have not changed in the meantime. Now you want to cancel the account and now suddenly you don't agree with the terms and conditions and longer and expect them to be waived?

That's just opportunistic douche-baggery. Even though the terms are silly, jy't jou bed gemaak nou moet jy daarin le.

The pro rata changed from 50% to FREE from the 27th.

We have implemented an easy chart for each offer showing what the discount rate for the month will be. You were billed correctly based on the date of signup

I have an 8mbps account that is constantly limited to around 6mbps, no matter the protocol, time of day, server etc. While it's great being able to download at 6mbps during the day, shouldn't I expect full speed after hours? Even over the unshaped weekend it was stuck at around 6mbps. It seems odd, since the sync speed is 10mbps, and other accounts are able to net me close to that amount. This is a newish problem, a couple of weeks ago I was getting closer to 10mbps after hours, and closer to 3mbps during the day. Any idea what could be going on?

not yet, I wanted to check if it's worth emailing them. I don't want my daytime speeds to drop :( I'm worried that if I bring it up, I might end up with being put on a more congested daytime route.

edit: fixed, thanks openweb support :D Full speed during the day again!

That is what Leon said but this was not on the page for the special. It purely said what I quoted above. I can upload a screen shot if you want. Therefore based on the information given to me I was not billed correctly.
