how does this wifi work?

with regards to my previous posts:

my 2mb line & gold uncapped account seem fine at last. running at 210KB/s instead of 100KB/s like it did.

and i did state clearly thats its stable and dont disconnect any longer.

at last the account performs like a gold uncapped account should.

Very good, very good!! The pro rata billing has been a bit of a bug bear for so many for so long. Good job!!!

Hi MrBEEP

please could you look into issues with zippyshare not loading, not sure if it's my account or something else.

Thanks

Nduimiso

I think i have the same problem and im also in cape town.
My dad complains every morning that the net is so slow and i ask him to do a speed test and the download is lying way back at 0.30kb/s...

I think its throttling, seeing as our upload does not move..
Its also intermittent, 1 hour its 0.30kb and and the next its 1.79kb.

I cancelled with mweb just for openweb.. Would be nice if its finally fixed, because im finding it hard to back you guys up when my father is permanently complaining about slow speeds.. :(

Unless you typed that incorrectly, speeds that low would indicate a Telkom issue. Have your dad login with the guest@telkomadsl (password: guest) account and do a speed test on saix.net.

Thats strange, because i've never gotten it with mweb.. Why all of a sudden with openweb ?
It could also be throttling and not telkom..

is it just me or do the people complaining in this thread tend to have a low post count? seems they come join the forum and then surf to this thread just to complain.

is this the only channel of communicaiton with openweb?

I've had similar problems, after which I'm told Telkom has reset my port.

How often does a port need to be reset? Internet suddenly starts crawling, where the day before it was fine...

Can you pre-emptively reset your port at set intervals to prevent such slow downs?

how does this wifi work?

works with AlwaysOn. if you go to wimpy or airport you will see AlwaysOn@wimpy for example. connect.

then go open browser and will open a always on page wich is there gateway. there will be drop down and in that drop down is openweb;mweb;FNB;IS etc etc etc. put in your adsl acc details and boom public area wireless for you buddy :)

enjoy

Im not a forum rat, i came here with a problem, to see if anyone else has the same as me. Or i could get quick help..

I only come here when i have something wrong, i cant help other people coz i know probably close to nothing about this type of stuff.

Hello,

Kindly email [email protected] with your ADSL username.

Also please include the following:

* A few example sites you experience the slow speeds on
* a tracert to www.openweb.co.za

We do not throttle. We do however shape based on how busy the network is at any given time.

Thats strange, because i've never gotten it with mweb.. Why all of a sudden with openweb ?

Hey Budza,

I'm afraid this is very difficult to predict. From my experience, some exchanges need a reset ALOT more often than others. What we do see often is:

* Older exchanges tend to give more trouble
* Over the last year, we have seen many many more congested exchanges than ever before

We believe Telkom upgraded client speeds without upgrading their exchanges, which is causing a myriad of problems.

I've had similar problems, after which I'm told Telkom has reset my port.
