Interesting thread.
Well, I've also noticed another session on my uncapped OpenWeb account.
If this is what it takes to make these accounts affordable, I don't see a problem. Provided:
1) It does not hamper speeds.
2) It does not cause disconnects.
3) It does not cause authentication problems.
4) Both parties are informed that they are sharing a username and log-in.
However, I don't believe any of these are true.
I did have an authentication problem last month to the extent that I had to use a different account until the problem was resolved. Did a "co-user" give the account details to someone else, thus preventing me from logging in?
I have noticed reduced performance (on multi-threaded downloads) from time-to-time. Whereas these would normally be at 400KB/s they would drop to say 250KB/s for some time before reverting back. Not that I'm complaining. Since I ordered 1024k uncapped, any speed above this is a bonus. But again, it is indicative of a shared account.
When my line disconnects (which is quite frequently) it often takes a minute or two of authentication failures before it reconnects.
And, of course, I thought only one connection was possible on the account. But today the password was changed along with a warning message that multiple connections would result in the account being suspended. So clearly there can be more than one physical connection.
I don't like the idea that misuse of the account by a third party (or my co-user) could impair or cause the service I've paid for to be disconnected. If an illegal login occurs, can Openweb determine which of the two co-users are at fault, if either? I don't see how that is possible.
On the one hand I love the account, on the other hand I want the assurance that I will continue to get what I paid for, and that the quality of the service will not be overly compromised.
