OpenWeb New Chapter

From the openweb website.

Friends,

It is with great excitement that I announce the launch of some magnificent
new products soon!

Herewith a sneak peak:

* 384k Uncapped ADSL (with no rate limits), running at 384k speeds day and night for around R599 (estimated price).
* 384k - 10GB ADSL account (not a VPN, a direct ADSL account that you pop into your router and have direct internet
access without proxies or VPN's) for around R349 (estimated price).

We are also focusing on some gaming specific products, that will allow high bandwidth to the most popular gaming sites.

Watch this space!

OpenWeb is about to transform!

Kind regards

384k Uncapped ADSL not bad at R599 vs normal R999 pricing with restrictions included.

384k - 10GB ADSL @ R349 vs any line speed 10GB @ R490; saving of R141 not so great. then again are we comparing saix vs is or is semi unshaped vs saix here ?, still good option of you only have a 384K line and don't need 1 meg+ speeds.

Yes if you're on 4 meg then i can see the speed limit being a problem, but for me on 384K it a huge price drop.

In the current "aah, lets do nothing" climate ill give openweb a big thumbs up when they deliver those prices.

Even though it doesn't look great on paper, it's still a saving of about 30% - not too shabby... relatively speaking.

In a very real sense the price of the uncapped at R599 could really begin to usher in the beginning of better times for the internet in this country.

Hopefully as seacom starts having a real impact we will see this drop to R499 and then R399. But for now R599 is a very important first step which should be applauded.

R599 is a bit much still. I know, we are never happy, blah blah. R399 is a good price.

Now, for LOCAL ONLY:

I would rather get 2xR130 accounts (60GB).

3x130=390, and 90GB. afaik, 100GB is the practical max of a 384line anyway, if the 128k upload speed is also maxed. Not many will max their line out 24/7/365...

Yeah if you want to play the game of splitting local and international then you can get your stuff cheaper.

But im kinda getting tired of splitting local and international, and going to bed worrying if routesentry has failed like it sometimes does, and not being able to watch a youtube video because i went crazy the week before. Sure you can get fancy, but i want to turn on my net without the bother.

So i'm now in the process of upgrading at the end of this month to a 1meg+ speed line, wonder if it's still worth it...

+1

that's expensive
I can't afford that LOL
that includes adsl, right? :erm:

No, that does not include your line rental.

It may sound expensive... but once you add up all the Gigs you can download you will start seeing the value! And it is lovely not to have to worry about letting Windows just do its updates, grabbing any distro or file you want, etc.

I'm impressed. :)

Would be great if contention ratios were made public. Openbrowse runs at less than 1k most times. Does that mean slightly more than 384 users per 384k? As opposed to the standard 20/1? :)

Gaming options being created sounds great. :) Although the above questions apply again.

So letting a virus download its latest payloads?:)

And as for not your comment regarding that some people should not be allowed near computers/internet. Not everyone was brought up in a technical light, there are people out there still coming to grips with technology so for you to go say that makes you sound very backwards actually. And further more, if a person purchases something over the phone, the sales consultant should confirm with the client of the understandings regarding the product they are purchasing. ( i am not refering to thriels case , i am talking about non-technical people ), and the sales consultant can deduce the technical level of the consumer by what they are requesting and perhaps there reasoning on why they need it if they are in a rush.

Hoping there will be no contracts required...

That will be the decider for me, I guess.

um, your comment about the virus coming down tells me all I need to know about you.

If you feel insulted that you are one of those people, then perhaps you should improve the situation by educating yourself? Maybe a Computers for Dummies book?

If I went to MacDonald's and the lady behind the counter asked me about my experience in eating a hamburger, I'd slap her. "Excuse me sir, but I see that you are a novice hamburger eater. Please can I give you a short demonstration on proper hamburger etiquette and warn you about the dangers of cholesterol?"

Come on... get real! Which planet are you from?

Oh dear. Not this again.
