Hi,

So as I thought the Afrihost/Axxess move to MTN has been a flop (IMO anyway). The service has sucked since the move over. I am on an 8MB uncapped and hardly ever hit top speed (the first few days were great). Add to that the fact there is no IPC in Cape Town and it is really just not looking good.

I am not happy to hang around until they sort there issues out so I was looking around and see OpenWeb has a deal on a 4MB IS uncapped for R396. Does anyone have an OpenWeb uncapped account and what is the performance like? What is OpenWebs service like?

Thanks.

MrBeep cares about his clients :)
MrBeep provides good service too, as a bonus.

Openweb appear to be solid.

They been one of the most consistent performers over the last couple of years where other ISP's have been up and down!! There might be better performing products out there for a lot cheaper but none that offer consistent performance.

This inconsistency of late, is becoming a major hindrance for a lot of users.

Openweb is really good! No throttling, excellent customer service in my opinion. I used a 1mbps uncapped account, it worked great, especially when it is after hours time.

Openweb is really working well. With all the problems with the MTN network and Mweb's up and down service depending on the area, it seems that Openweb are probably one of the most (if not the most) reliable at the moment for uncapped internet.

Thanks for the replies.

Is anyone on their standard uncapped accounts? Hoping the shaping isn't too bad as I can't afford Gold.

The speeds are great. I don't do a lot of downloading during the day, download torrents, or play online games, so I cant really comment on that, but I get full speed in the evenings and the few times I've accessed youtube or steam during the day, I usually get full speed.

Signed up this AM to get a decent account for BLOPS 2 tonight (on Axxess currently).
Phoned at 4 to find out when I will get my login details. Took 5 attempts to speak to someone. Was told by 5 I would have my details. Northing yet.

So for me, the initial experience has been real crap and still no account.

Well i dont do alot of downloading, maybe the odd 200mb every other week so i cant speak for that but browsing is super fast. I do alot of gaming, mainly on the playstation network. It doesnt matter if im connecting to BF3 servers or hosts in CoD, I have a great connection all the time.

I have a standard Openweb uncapped account at R359 odd. I experience no shaping whatsover even during office hours and the latency is excellent. I am a heavy downloader and I game online so I know what I am talking about. I used their Gold Uncapped accounts significantly as well but I can't see the difference really. Maybe a little bit better latency and redundancy. But to me the Gold Uncapped is not worth the upgrade. I have been with Openweb for years. They also had their shaping issues but their accounts have improved a lot. I am very pleased with Openweb.

Can you elaborate on "heavy downloader"?
This is my main concern. I have 3 kids that love the internet. With my downloading and their YouTube HD, music streaming, etc... usage I can easily hit over 400GB in a month.

I'm on GOLD 6meg and the account flies. NEVER have latency issues. NEVER have throttling issues. Best account I've ever had.

Why you calling them? Just sign up on the site. MUCH easier.

Signed up THEN called later to find out why I had not received anything.

Hi Mike,

Has your problem been resolved?

Yes thanks. Got my details the following day.
Account running pretty smooth. Big step up from my Axxess account.

Got told today by a colleague that he used to be with OpenWeb but left because the FUP is quite hectic. He said once he got throttled he struggled to even browse the net.
How true is this?

Hi Mike,

I am glad to hear you are up and running.

Your friend probably experienced a line or router fault, as we definitely would not implement such throttling. In fact, as of earlier this year, none of our accounts have any throttling attached to them. They are shaped.
