Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

Jayzus, 20mins to upload a 1MB file to Dropbox. You've got to be kidding me.

Ah, so I'm not the only one then. A 4meg line should not have trouble with a 720p stream.

I've got access to a server on DSL Heaven, what servers do you want me to ping/download from? I only have ssh on the server (no GUI so I can't run speedtest from it)

Thanks no need, I established that it has to be an issue with VB. Just miss the all round goodness of DSLHeaven streaming and p2p.

international just went down, local are working fine on the dslheaven...

Yup, international down here too (DSL Heaven)
sigh if it's not VB having wonky international, it's DSL Heaven now.

bah

There was a slight hitch this morning but everything on my Openweb Gold is super fast again

On VB my local ping is Okay, around 40 - 50ms but international is around 1000ms - happened over the weekend as well and it seems its only on the international side. Download speeds are perfectly fine.

Yup no issues with download speed. I wonder why the local ping is fine for you but for me it's horrible. My back account gives me the correct pings and geez i cannot spend 150 bucks a month on more bandwidth.

I also cannot live without VB though because it is very relaxed and doesn't choke my line, it runs full when i need it to so moving to a backbone that chokes my line will be a bit much.

Yep I feel the same. My international ping is fine on my backup account but I don't want to change from VB to something else. I'd rather use my backup account for gaming and keep using VB for everything else. :)

Hi guys

I joined the Gold uncapped club yesterday, and started of with quite a good experience ( DSLHEAVEN account)

problem is , today sometime, the account started performing exactly like the webafrica account i was running away from :(- half speed downloads for most of the day ( ie 230KB/s max... )

i know i will not get full speed al the time, but after hours is a time i expect an uncapped account to become unthrottled again

Yes i did email support....

Can anybody please explain what the VB accounts is(as they seem to perform better in some cases)

thank you

What's dslheaven like these days?

Mine was awesome today.

There's definitely no throttling involved hey. It's probably a network thing somewhere.

VB is the Vodacom Business backbone. It's fast :)

Actually the common experience I have with VB is this:

http or ftp download from some international server (that's not cached transparently via Akamai or something)

1 single threaded download is often around 40-120KB/s

Use a download manager with 4+ connections per file/server = max out your line.

This is evident on a lot of sites/protocols.

I've repeated this experience on 2x VB accounts on 2 different exchanges with different modems/routers etc;

This isn't *all* the time, but it's most of the time in my experience. Other friends of mine who used to be with OW (on VB) complained about the same thing.
