Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

If it helps you any, I'm in the Stellenbosch area in the western cape. The only thing that sucks on my account is http, but http downloads have always been ****ty on VB, in my experience.

Hi, I don't know if it is just me but I'm struggling to get full line speeds on VB using Astraweb? Are you getting full speeds on NNTP and using which usenet provider?

I get full speed on VB, also using Astraweb. Which Usenet client are you using?

Hmm, I'm using NewsLeecher, 10 connections, default server (news.astraweb.com), default port 119. Don't think the problem would be the client. Maybe try one of the other servers provided by Astraweb.

Hi Mike,

Thanks, Will do that - strange that I get full line speed when connecting to SAIX, which suggested it could be VB. Will play around with other servers tonight.

Anyone currently having any issues on DSL-H? Don't want to email support if its a general problem.

Was on VB having auth problems, was put on DSL-H this weekend.
Today DSL-H is running below 2kb/s. Want my VB speed back :cry:
Mailed support, waiting for reply. Hopefully VB is working today and I can be moved back.

Seems to be a general problem today. DSL-H is is much better than VB usually. Just wait for whatever issue they are having to be resolved.
 
Guess I'll have to send the CEO an email.

I am very happy to have back-up IS (Afrihost) and webafrica accounts for moments like this

I hope so, atm DSL-H is up to sh*t. Did reset of router and things are better, but not what they should be.
Speed is about 50% of what it should be.
 
I asked to be moved over to DSL-H as I have not had a good experience with IS in terms of nzb and streaming (at the moment I'm getting an avg of 20KB/s) even browsing pictures is slow. But I was told the DSL-H accounts are sold out, I do not understand this, I thought one could move to different backbones on the Gold accounts. I'm still awaiting on the reply.

Anybody else sign up when they had the Gold special? If I'm locked into IS, then I'm going to cancel.
 
Yep, also having issues with my DSL-H account. First problem I've had with my account since November last year. Probably a WA issue, will wait to see if it resolves itself.

Also signed up with the special. Started out on the IS backbone and it was great, full speed 24/7, but somewhere over the long weekend, i hit the throttling, and it has been slow, during office hours, yesterday and today, last night went full speed again. Emailed support earlia, they were quick to respond and i got a VB account about an hour ago. So one can still move to different backbones by the sound of it.

On another note, Vodacom Business seem to be having some problems. I'm in Cape Town, and I'm getting pings to mweb in Joburg of around 280ms. And the speeds are up and down, 0.35mb to Webafrica, then 8mb to the same server a minute later.. But in general everything is still working. Tried a torrent and it was going at 100kB/s, youtube buffering fast, browsing is alright.

Had very erratic internet yesterday, not only on my OW account though (also with Afrihost, FNBConnect). Also in Cape Town.
 
Speeds are really bad atm on openweb. Afterhours account on a 10mb line crawling at less than 512kbps

anyone using silver uncapped with the 10MBit option? hows is the gaming ? how is the HTTP downloads? NZB downloads ? and browsing? whats the feedback?
