Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

Sounds like all the more premium backbones are going belly up; VB, Altech, BCS. I've been moved to Internet Solutions, and it's currently running really well, but previous experience has taught me that all IS accounts run well at first, then degrade until you get fed up demand a move or cancel. :(

VB was pretty much the best backbone out there. Great speeds during the day, zero degradation of quality over time.

Yeah, when I first got VB I was overwhelmed by it and then over time.. utter rubbish, Got to the point where, even at 2am a 240p (yes, 240p) audio ONLY (like those music tracks on youtube with a static image) could hardly stream sometimes. Ran 100% when I tried an account from another ISP, then flipped back to VB and the same result.

We may switch to Mweb for work here, I am seriously considering it. I've been with MW at home for about 4 months now and I've had hardly any issues at all, far less random problems but I'll give IS and VB another go - I've stopped logging faults with OW because it seems pointless. Like, now WA is running perfectly again.

I don't mean to trash talk OW but I am not entirely happy with us paying R720pm for what we get, especially not with all the competition that's on the market now.

My first experience with OW was on the DSL-Heaven backbone (acctually requested it on sign up) and it was a pure nightmare, slow slow slow. I then requested a change to another backbone. Got put on IS and have been happy since. Sure, one or two glitches but nothing major.

I think BCS is experiencing some serious issues. I had very sporadic connection to many of my online services over the weekend, including things like Steam simply not logging in or when they log in, not downloading anything. I got moved to another account yesterday.
I also had problems logging onto Steam with my BCS account. So I'm using a backup account for online gaming. I would really like to know why that is. I seriously do not want to be put on a IS backbone, it usually deteriorates.

Yeah, any video or audio streaming I tried on VB was a nightmare, but for downloads it was pretty good.

Yeah, I generally avoid IS accounts like the plague, but sadly in this case I didn't really have any other options. VB was broken for me, BCS wasn't working properly and I blatantly refuse to go on the WebAfrica backbone.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one, especially after being told it was a problem with my setup.

Hi, is it only me or are the guys on the IS backbone battling to surf net, my router is a TP-LINK TD-W8950ND and it takes about 10min for the internet light to come on, the DSL light comes on in under 10sec.

All web sessions expire, google lookups or any site for that matter, im typing this by connecting on my FNB connect account.

Anyone else having same issue or anyone know as to why?

Im on a 1MB Gold Uncapped account

I have had disconnects since yesterday... once I reconnect it is fine again. I am assuming it is the upgrade of my exchange (holds thumbs), other than the frequent disconnects all is OK.

You in Cape Town ?

4MB Gold Uncapped on the IS Backbone. Everything is 100% my side.

Thanks for feedback

No based in JHB, Sandton.

Very very frustrating...

Hi All
I have a uncapped after hours 4meg account trundeling along a 200k it normally does 700k or so.
Also had a few disconnects over the last few days.

Wow, I'm trying to RDP into a server on my IS account, and it is slow as hell. :<

Logged into my Mweb account, everything lightning fast.

Sigh.

Now I can't log into Steam on my IS account. It simply refuses to log in and eventually times out. Third backbone I have issues with in 2 weeks.

Daytime IS speeds on anything including browsing are (still) pathetic. Quite depressing.

If this keeps up I'm cancelling my account and moving over to Mweb. OpenWeb is nice because my account is portable and not tied to a single landline, but ever since VB stopped working for me I've only had trouble with my internet, whereas my capped accounts from other providers run perfectly. This is NOT acceptable for a product we pay a premium for. WebAfrica is a broken backbone, BCS has connectivity issues, IS is slow as hell and VB doesn't authenticate. What is left for us then?

Edit: On a well-seeded torrent (35 seeders, 2 peers), I get download speeds of below 10kb/s. I thought Gold accounts were supposed to be unshaped after hours? Did I even get assigned a Gold account? Speeds are TERRIBLE on this thing. I couldn't even RDP earlier.

I have always wondered about this, how does one know that you actually have a different account than the standard accounts.

LOL, depends on what you pay per month. If you're not sure, just email MrBeep and verify with him what account you have. Unless you're referring to the different backbones ?

BTW, I'm on an IS account and it's flying for me :D

I think what he means is that Gold users can be given standard accounts and they wouldn't even know it.

Either way, after 23:00 IS suddenly started looking up slightly. I can now access Steam and RDP. Steam downloads at full speed it seems, but torrents are still under 10kb/s.

I'm very dubious about this, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, for now. My history with IS services has always ended badly, and I don't trust IS accounts at all.

I was not very clear in my post but this is what I meant. How do you know you get the account that you pay for?

Like clockwork

Between which hours do your speeds decrease, more or less? Want to see if it matches up with my experience yesterday

I don't think there is any way to be 100% certain, but I used to be on standard uncapped before I switched to Gold, and shaping on standard was terrible. I used to get 2-3kb/s download speeds during peak hours, which went up to a maximum of 6kb/s after-hours.
