Openweb uncapped ADSL promotion

Its a trap!

Sorry openweb, but you throttle people WAY too much.

What nonsense! I have been with openweb for almost 4 years now and have never been throttled.

This comes highly recommended!

If only they can sort out their sign up process. It's too old school for me.
The control panel needs to carry all specials and the non-secure page for all my personal info is a big no (unless it changed, but I doubt it).

Its why I never signed up.

I signed up for the 1mb offer this afternoon and tonight I am trying a few different types of downloads and they are sitting in the 5kb/s region on my 1mb line.

When I trialled the 1mb uncapped mweb line it was sitting around 70kb/s this time of the night. What is happening here

I did not see this was a openweb browse/lite account. It is their standard uncapped account.

Have I just made a huge mistake in signing up here?

Sounds like it you probably should of first asked around to see how they are ect, if you still have slows speeds tomorrow then contact them.

Tell us more? Perhaps your connection is so slow that you can't tell the diffs! How is the 4Mbps - how much do you burn a month (crucial factor) on your chosen line speed?

I signed up during the last promo, got so fed up by the bad speed I cancelled last month, I am moving over to MWEB.

I was with Openweb for about 6-8 months. The longest time period that I things ran smoothly without me having to contact them for help was 2 weeks.
At one point their throtteling got so bad that I couldn't get more than 10kbs during the day on 1mbs.

I moved over to MWEB after that and the only real problem that I had was when there was a Seacom fault.

Its not re-introduced there's only 200 accounts available and I'm guessing you have to sign up for a debit order to get this account.
Good Deal though.

Openweb's speed on any type of download on those speeds are horrible. Its slow as s**t.
I tried it and after numerous calls to them it was'nt sorted so had to upgrade to a better account that was unshaped.
The more expensive accounts which are about R290 on a 1mb line are fine though.

I am on the R290 1mb uncapped account. Still terrible and no reply from them yet.

Their standard uncapped used to be "good enough". I think they are intentionally screwing those accounts up, including gold accounts, to convince people to spend more on the "higher quality" accounts.
I was told that I should switch from gold 4mbps uncapped to after hours uncapped unshaped (which costs more)

MWEB dropped their Business account pricing - me thinks will wait and see what happens there...

This is not true.

Mail sent. While you're fixing things,

Fix this. Something is clearly wrong with your shaping if the only solution is to switch accounts every 2 weeks.
