As the title says, problem being that I cannot find any compatibility info on the router.
nmap doesn't give me consistent results:

So it looks like it is actually a ZyXEL P650HW. The ZyXEL website has no info on the P650HW and their FTP site has the directories for the device, but they are all empty :(

I managed to find a manual for the device, but the telnet interface described in the doc is different from the actual interface. The closest telnet interface match I have found so far has been the ZyWALL 2 Plus (ZyWALL 2 Plus_3.pdf). quite a few of the commands listed do not work, but many of them do (E.g. poe show).

I am almost at the point now of giving up and buying a WRT54G.

Does anyone know who actually manufactured the device and if it is possible to load OpenWRT on it?
 
I have the same problem here, I go and visit my parents house every now and then, theny have an telkom 5102g adsl modem, I managed to load billion firmware on it, but cant get anywhere something that indicates a way to put openwrt or dd-wrt firmware on it, I have my own linksys wrt54gl with the latest dd-wwrt firmware on, I need to bridge it with the bottom router wirelesly, thers no way for me to pull an cable, as the owbner of the house dont like me drilling holes in the roof or walls, its an double story house, and the adsl router is downstairs and the bedrooms upstairs.

Anyway, any help on adding some open-wrt or dd-wrt firmware, would be appreciated. any firmware which would allow me to bridge the 2 routers.
 
Why do you want OpenWRT on the router or the Linksys WRT54G(L) with DD-WRT?

If you want to do traffic splitting, you could get either a MikroTik RB750 for R310 (ex VAT) or a RB750G (Gigabit router & faster CPU than RB750) for R535 (ex VAT) from Scoop Distributions. There's already a wiki page for the MikroTik routers on how to do the traffic splitting...
 
I dont want to do traffic splitting, all I want to do is extend the wireless network from downstairs to upstairs by connecting the linksys to the telkom, without buying any new hardware. I have 3 pcs now with me upstairs which I need to have all connected to the internet via my linksys wrt54gl, but I cant run an cable from downstairs to upstairs, it must be dont wirelessly. I can and have linked 2 linksys routers via wds before, using dd-wrt, but I dont have another linksys now and just would like to sortof use the linksys as an wifi dongle as I dont have one.

There is ALWAYS a way to get -- upstairs downstairs

Look for plumbing and wiring closets.

The PLUMBERS and ELECTRICIANS ALREADY did the drilling for you.

I am sure that you will be able to makes a plan with 100M

Ok I Figured it out. :D :whistle:

You just need one of the 2 wireless routers to have dd-wrt on.

Then you follow these steps: I will copy and paste them directly from dd-wrt's site:

A router in Client Mode connects to other wireless Access Points (the host router).

A router in Client Mode uses its wireless connection as the WAN interface, and shares the internet connection only to the LAN ports.

A router in Client Mode is not seen as an access point by laptops or other computers scanning for APs. The client mode router does not accept wireless connections from client devices.

A router in Client Mode (the client router) connects to a main router (the host router) as though it were any other wireless client.

The host router is not required to be running DD-WRT firmware.

The main router and secondary router (DD-WRT client mode) are on separate subnets. NAT is used between the routers. Thus, when port forwarding is needed it must be configured at both routers — not just on the main (host) router.

The router in Client Mode must use its own DHCP server to give out IP numbers, Gateway and DNS server to the devices connected to its LAN ports.

To have computers connected to both routers (main and secondary) and co-exist in the same subnet, set up DD-WRT as a Wireless Bridge, Repeater Bridge or use WDS. Further explanation of bridging modes is in the Glossary.

The router that you are trying to connect to is the primary router. The router you are configuring is the client router. You don't need to worry about the primary router as long a s you set your client to a different subnet. What this means is, if the primary router has an IP of 192.168.A.X, you need to set the client router to an IP of 192.168.B.X. Most primary routers will be at 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.0.1. So, when you are configuring your client router, set it to 192.168.2.x.

With that in mind, here is how to configure it.

1. Download a recommended build for your router. DO NOT USE SP1. If you are using a broadcom router, read the peacock thread prior to starting. http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486 Use one of those recommended builds.
2. Do a HARD reset on your router.
3. Connect a cable from your computer to the LAN port on your router.
4. Set your computer to a static IP address of 192.168.1.7
5. Set your browser to 192.168.1.1 and open the dd-wrt webgui.
6. You should be asked to change your password and username. Carefully type these in. If you aren't asked for a password and username, do a hard reset, this time doing it properly! Hit change password.
7. Go FIRST to wireless, wireless security and enter the security type and key that matches your primary router.
8. Hit SAVE, (or APPLY if you wish to)
9. Go to the wireless, basic settings page and change the wireless mode to Client.
10. Your wireless network mode should be set to the same as the primary router.
11. Set the wireless channel to match your primary router channel
12. Set the wireless network name to exactly the same as your primary router. Make sure spelling and capitalization match.
13. Set Ack timing to 0 unless you have a long distance (>300 meter) link
14. Hit SAVE at the bottom.
15. Check to make sure all the configurations, including the mode, saved and the mode is still client. If any changed, fix them, and save again.
16. Goto Setup, basic setup and enter a router IP, Local IP address of 192.168.2.1. Leave subnet mask at 255.255.255.0.
17. Set the Gateway IP to your primary router. (Likely 192.168.1.1)
18. Leave Local DNS blank
19. Check Assign Wan port to a switch, if you wish to.
20. Change your timezone and DST to match where you are.
21. Hit Apply.
22. Change your computer IP address to 192.168.2.7
23. Set your browser to 192.168.2.1 and login to your router
24. Goto Setup/Basic Setup and enter 208.67.222.222 for Static DNS1, and 208.67.220.220 for Static DNS2. Hit Apply.
25. Goto Security, Firewall. Under Block Wan Requests, uncheck everything but "Filter Multicast" (Leave Filter multicast checked).
26. Hit Save
27. Disable SPI Firewall
28. Hit Apply.
29. Set your computer back to auto IP and auto DNS.
