OS X Yosemite - Developer Preview 3

Contemplating wether to install the public beta or not. The translucency is very alluring, like a moth to an outdoor light

Just installed the beta on my old 2010 Air and so far so good.

Works well, a couple glitches with safari for me but everything else has worked fine since DP1.
Guessing if you work with certain purchased video/photo editing apps there might be issues.

How often has there been updates and how big are they normally? Bandwidth is a slight issue at the moment...

Safari needs some work. I don't like how you need to click in the address bar when you open a new browser window. Plus there's a significant delay before you can type in it while the bookmarks grid builds.

I open a new tab by clicking the + button on the far right and Command+N to open a new browser window. Also, I enabled the favourites bar to enable quick access to my bookmarks. Works the same so far for me as the previous version

They haven't changed the method to open new windows/tabs however previously when you did so the focus would already be on the location/search bar - now you have to click into it before you can type.

Ok. Makes sense now. I clicked into it always so never noticed the difference.

anyone have very high ram usage?

7.5gb constantly and only 8gb installed...

I restarted my MacBook and then checked Activity Monitor and it shows 5GB RAM is in use. kernel_task is chowing around 750mb and the rest is being used in small bits by various other services.

The system font takes a bit to get used but it's a much needed change.

Have you got links to full resolution screenshots to view the fonts?

OS X has always had crap fonts imho (yes windows is worse). Would like to see what the new font rendering looks like.

When I say crap I'm comparing it to Infinality font rendering on linux.

Bit the bullet and installed the public beta. It looks gorgeous. No problems so far.

Safari also seems more fluid than before and there is quite a bit more usable space.

I also have have high usage. But the system seems to stay responsive. I think it is just cashed RAM and gets dumped when a new process needs to take its place and there isn't enough RAM available.
