From the little information that’s trickled out from inside the Nasrec Expo Centre, it seems these votes belong to delegates who were not on the voters’ roll but who were legitimate enough to take part in the vote. However, their votes have been “tainted” by questions about whether they really were good to attend, because the provincial executive committee that was supposed to sanction this was hostile. The committee is also, according to a court ruling, not supposed to exist.

Just to play it safe, their votes were then “quarantined”.

From the information obtained, it seems the regions in question are KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast and Abaqulusi regions, and perhaps one more in Limpopo.

The quarantined votes were from areas where Mchunu is popular, so their votes may constitute the difference between him going back to being an ordinary branch member in the province or being the most powerful man in the ANC – and ultimately South Africa’s de facto prime minister.

So... you count them as voters and add there votes to the total possible votes but you don't count them?

According to EWN, Mchunu only received 15 of those votes is what the ANC will tell the plenary.
 
Only 17 of the 63 were apparently allowed to vote.
 
Perhaps better to let a Court decide. At this stage I don't trust anyone to make their way out of a paper-bag.

I do somewhat agree with rza that it would be super risky to take this to court?

Perhaps just wait to see where the power in the NEC lies?

If you have a pro cyril NEC that supports a proper state capture investigation, Ace doesn't really matter.

I dunno...

The problem is that those in the premier league quickly indicated that if the Ramaphosa camp wants the decision to be overturned they will ask for a total revote of all the positions and insist that the roughly 200 delegates that were originally excluded because of the court cases be allowed back.

The News24 article states that the premier league will ask for a total revote, not that the law requires it...

And its totally not over yet.
 
Maybe somebody can clarify my confusion on this

The votes were by secret ballot
They claim that certain voters were legitimate to vote but were not on the voters roll

How were they allowed to actually vote in the first place and be counted in the head count if they were not on the voters roll?

Would the fact that they were not on the voters role but legitimate voters be resolved even before they got the paper to vote?

How do they know which votes belonged to the "illegitimate" voters unless they kept the votes completely separate to the rest of the votes?

why would they do this if it is supposed to be a secret ballot?

Were these votes removed on the third count as I read an article somewhere that Mchunu had won on the two previous counts and only on the third count did ACE win after his people kept asking for a repeat count?

This just all seems very strange
 
If you support opposition parties you should welcome Ace in the SG position:
- He will be the face of the ANC which will leak votes for them.
- Ramaphosa will be more motivated to get a credible NPA boss appointed to get Ace charged. The drama when that happens will not be good PR for the ANC.
- Media will scrutinise his history and splash his known crimes all over the news as well as uncover new dirt.
- ANC will be more paralysed than if the top 6 worked together.
- lots of egg on ANC’s face for allowing this voting debacle to happen in the first place.
- Best of all ANC in KZN will lose support to IFP because they appear weak- the biggest province ends up with no one in top 6.

For Ramaphosa supporters there is also a silver lining. With Ace out of Free State politics and Senzo forced to go back to KZN politics, chances are looking great for Ramaphosa friendly provincial chairs in both provinces.

I say it is best to just drop this issue now.
