PC gaming isn't dead

"The introduction of each new exciting computing device or software app considered outside the narrow scope of the traditional PC"

Dont agree with that sentence. The other devices have "narrow scope". Theyre all dumbed down PCs.

The "narrow" scope of my PC includes but is not limited to, The best gaming experience, Internet device, PVR, Telephone, Fax machine, scanner, printer, http server, sql, NAS, Media/Music player etc etc etc.

Show me another device that can do more than my PC. Narrow.. pfff.

While this article seem to focus alot on hardware reasons , PC Gaming is at the end of the day about the software . I'm pretty sure Steam will also agree PC Gaming is going nowhere , likewise Blizzard .

OMW? the ceo of one of the largest PC hardware manufacturing companies is telling people that PC gaming isnt dead?

12 million+ wownerds all playing from xbox and ps3 amirite

PC gaming is declining fullstop, the main reason is because is that the pc market is dominated by windows and microsoft are focusing more on the xbox then windows when it comes to gaming.

Declined in one perspective and climbed in another. MMO's are proof of this.

PC's will always stay. You can do what you want with them, whereas with consoles you can only do what the manufacturer allows you to do with it.

I was starting to wonder when this subject was going to make it's pass at the My Broadband forums.:D
The fact of the matter is this; since the very first Atari game consoles came out the whole "PC gaming is dead" debate has been going on. Now in my opinion PC gaming has just grown & grown. If anything the last Generation of consoles have actually helped PC gaming because consoles have now managed to become the focused devices in mainstream gaming not the PC anymore, translated, demand for high tech hardware has decreased tremendously, meaning more people can game on low to medium Gaming Rig's, Meaning more people game.
Let's face it even the mighty Microsoft has tried to kill PC Gaming for almost 5 years now. They now finally realized they will never get it right. Now finally realizing just how big the PC gaming slice of the pie is, now all of a sudden they're trying to get back into PC gaming, making promises of a new Marketplace launching with 100+ Titles, a new GFW Client which apparently is going to be packed with features including text & voice chat with 360 gamers. Some articles even state Microsoft wants to give cross platform gaming another try. So to sum it all up. In my opinion PC gaming is going many places and out the door is not one of them.

Actually less and less people use their PCs for gaming anymore, the popularity of nettops and netbooks are a testament to that but that said if O.Ss and game developers jump onto the Atom band wagon then we might see a Renaissance of PC gaming.

Who the F relies on Microsoft for gaming??? Last time I checked no decent games or game support comes from microsoft.

I say standardize and eliminate the difference between console and PC for gaming. Standardized - easy to maintain and know what games work on it - gaming rigs with more capability FTW!

Just slap a keyboard and mouse on it, turn it sideways and put it on your desk with LCD, and away you go :D

PC gaming will never die... lol who ever said that is smoking his shoes!

o me o my, pc games are dead, woe is me etc

the only good thing about a console is its mobile. but hey, wait, whats that? a laptop? that I can plug into my tv? just like a console? but with better processing power and graphics? that can also run console games? and surf the net? and write letters to my mom that i print that will never reach her?

and then of course, mmo's. 12million people playing wow on their <consoles> ? or star wars? on their <consoles>?

<spit> farmville? on their consoles?

ya rite bru, like, wateva. pc gaming is dead, deceased, shuffled off this mortal coil 'ee fcking snuffed it (copyright Monty Python, The Dead Parrot Sketch)

There is enough user generated content to keep PC gaming alive for a long time. What I do agree with is that big commercial computer games are fading away. So many recent commercial releases have been a huge disappointment, its almost as though they are trying to make them fail. DRM, huge patches, bugs.... all kinds of fail !

re: huge patches. go overseas, where they have real internet, and the biggest market for games and internet. download a 1gb patch in 40minutes while you go do your shopping. voila!
