Philips Airfryer - anyone have?

Anyone crack a way to make hot chips taste similiar to oil fry chips? I can't get it right

There is a compromise you can make...

Roll/mix the chips with oil in a bowl with a little oil.

Then take out and place on the grid racks and cook.

Best is if you precook the chips after cutting, in water. Allow a lil time to cool. Freeze. Take out, do as above and then enjoy

The recipe that comes with the machine suggests 45 minutes ... I did a 2kg chicken last week and it wasn't crispy enough to my liking after 45 minutes at 200. Notched it up to 225 for another 15 minutes and it was farking awesome to say the least!

Yeah that sounds about right. I also chuck my roasties in with the chicken.

Thanks to you lot i am now the owner of a logik convection oven.... wanna try it out tonight (ideas welcome). i presume there are recipes included in the mannual.... are they nice ? or where can i find a nice site with recipes.

Haha :D

You will enjoy it. I can't remember if there was a recipe book, probably was. I bought a beef roll from food lovers market, tossed it in with some roasties and drizzled it with olive oil and red wine. Was delish.

I saw these but I guess they are for the eating-over-the sink single person.
If you have a studio with no oven then it's great- even ole Mom who lives alone, swears by the ovens but if you do normal baking and have kids to feed and baking trays full of stuff needing an oven then
it's just another gadget that clutters up the kitchen. If they make them proper oven size then it will be a different story.
I've settled on an all gas six burner stove and gas oven (hedging my bets that the gas price will be cheaper than electricity over the medium term)

I beg to disagree. I have 2 kids and I can't actually remember the last time I used my oven. Remember that Logick has a steel band that increases the capacity. I guess if you have 4 or more kids it could be an issue. :p

O wait, are you referring to the Logick or the Phillips. If the Phillips, I agree, it is not very big at all.

You are very very wrong ;)

I had to resurrect this thread. Last year we got a Logick convection oven as a gift. It is similar to the air fryer but its bigger and actually works a damn side better than the Phillips. We cook practically everything in it. I even did bacon in it on the weekend and it come out awesome. They on special at Game for R379 which is a steal.

I got the Sunbeam one from Makro, which costs R499. Probably identical one, just different name. Awesome little oven. I especially like the fact that this is in a glass bowl , so you don't need fancy lamps or lights and can see exactly what's going on. The Phillips Airfryer on the other hand, which is R1999 at Makro at this stage, did seem a little overpriced in comparison.

This one: http://www.makro.co.za/p/2967/sunbeam-convection-oven/

Irony is Makro also sells the Verimark/Homemark one which costs like R999 and it is -identical- . I supposes Verimark products are good for one thing , allowing Sunbeam/Logic/etc to make cheaper versions of it (if they are not making the Verimark ones to begin with).

I had the same thing with that overpriced clothes steamer thing. You can buy a proper industrial Logik steamer at Game for Like R300, but Verimark sells a smaller one for like R1500!

happy?

I have been using a Prima One and Only for a month, which I bought from Makro for about R800 and I'm very happy with it so far.
It is similar in size and shape to the Phillips Airfryer.

What's the point of air frying?
If u fry chips how much oil really sticks to the chips.
Always thought of measuring the volume of oil before and after frying.
Plus who said cooking oil is unhealthy.
Ol prof Tim noakes reckons fat is good for u.

Ok, so i bought the logic one at game for R379 , so far i made a whole chicken and some veggies in it and also some lamb chops and veggies in it.........the outcome was excellent, the food was nice and tender/ moist and all the fat and juices was at the bottom and my food wasn't sitting in it like it does in a oven tray.....It seems like i'm gonna use this thing a lot

Any nice recipes??

Good to hear! What I also love about it is that you can have cooked something and leave it in there for a good 10 - 20 mins just with the lid on and the food stays perfectly warm.

Seriously? You don't think the oils goes inside the chips when it's being fried in 5litres of oil?

Maybe you should try eating fried foods 3 times a day for one month, and see what happens....Keep us updated.

Also bought the logic on Grimspoon's recommendation (thx dude). Cooked a whole bird in it, was very nice. Cant wait to use it again.

Both look very similar in term of specifications:

1200 to 1400 Watt VS 1300 Watt
Both looks like 250 degrees
Both has a 60 minute timer
Both have a 12Lt capacity

But the BAUER has the halogen lamp, wish we had a review of it.

Jut to clarify, the Logic also says halogen on the box... The Logic comes with a extender ring to bump up capacity.

I see there is a thread on "Halogen Convection Ovens" : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/501530-Halogen-Convection-Oven

No I don't think there is that much oil left after the food it is fried and drained.
In fact when u see adverts on baked chips they specifically don't mention that oven chips are healthier than fried chips because it is not true.
BTW I do eat fried food maybe 4 times a week but never chips (not even baked)
