Phuket ticket prices

I was in Thailand a few years back on holiday. Spent 5 nights in Bangkok and 7 nights in Phuket. Amazing holiday... everything was so cheap. Luckily my stomach faired well with the local cuisine. Went out to nightclubs most nights or just ventured around the night markets picking up bargains. Patong beach was amazing, stayed just around the corner from Bangla road which is the local nightlife area. Very lively, lots of bars and clubs ... spent every afternoon laying on the beach listening to music, having a few beers and dozing off.... I wanna go back as soon as possible... as far as I'm concerned you will get the most value for money going there as opposed to other destinations. And don't forget to visit one of the MANY tailors in that area and have a few suits tailormade... never underestimate the value of a good tailor made suit :)

Back then I paid roughly R14000 for the complete package on Thai Airways... airline was ok.. nothing special... but with all the shopping (bought suitcases in Bangkok and filled them up) and partying I think the entire trip cost roughly R30000. each.

I went to one of those... was a bit strange coz i was sitting in an audience with old women and couples.. while some young thai girl was trying to hit me up for ladydrinks.

The balloon popping and bubble blowing demo was a bit much though.. O.o

King another must do"

a Ping Pong Show.

Oh yes, that is also. Just pack underwear and one set of clothes. There is shopping galore, just not if you are and SA xl Man. Sorry You pom poi. ( fat in Thai ) they are not shy about telling you this either :D

:D

Oh.. and another thing.. if you are going to Bangkok... a great place to stay is the Baiyoke Sky Hotel... one of the taller hotels available.. the pool is on the 12th floor and it has a a viewing deck on the 20th floor which gives you an amazing view of the city. There is a night market just outside the hotel as well... for those late night shopping urges :)

Its one of the things you do in Thailand. :D I also sat with a gaping mouth. We did not go see the : Goldfish, frog, mouse and bird show though. :wtf:

That is just nasty!

Yeah ... shopping is a dream.. i managed to pick up really good quality t-shirts for roughly R14... bought dozens of them... and also i paid R1500 to have 2 suits tailormade (took about 3 days)... that's 2 full suits, with shirts, waistcoats, ties, jacket and pants. I didn't really have problems getting big sizes... but I think I was at the upper range of what they had available... :/

Yeah... I'm glad I did not get tricked into going to one of those... those taxi drivers are quite sneaky sometimes.... we got taken to one of this fishbowl places where the girls sit in glass enclosures and you have to pick one... taxi driver got quite upset when we said we only wanted to go for a normal massage not a "special" one :P

Oh... and another hint.... if you are at a bar, don't buy your waitress a drink (a common practice here when you have a shot).... you will soon be crowded by 10 - 20 other waitresses asking for the same thing... besides asking for a tip as well :/

Did you just visit Phuket? As I'll be visiting Kuala Lumpur and Beijing as well. Advice and tips would be much appreciated :-)

Hi Violet, Beijing is fanatstic. Be sure to Visit, Tianemen Square and Mao Mauseleum, the Forbidden City is just across the road and that a day at least. There's also the Temple of Heaven, The Winter Palace, The Valley of the Tombs and of course the Great Wall. There are lots of original little chinese settlements in the vicinity of the Forbidden City where you can get some local dishes. Street vendors are also good. City fairly modern with Starbucks etc. Wtach out for pirate taxis, the ones without a meter! I stayed away from shopping centres and concentrated more on older chinese centers. Most do no speak english, but kids can and are very helpful. I stayed at the Best Western which was opposite the museum and within walking distance (2-3 km) of the places i wanted to visit. Customs at Airport were less than friendly. I travelled from Singapore and they confiscated my single malt purchased at Changi (still don't know why). An american female behind me had her bag ripped apart and dainties scattered all over! Fascinating City, real combination of old and new. Make sure you get hotel to write down address and address of place you want to go in Chinese, helps when you get lost. From Beijing I went to Shangai then Singapore. Electronics cheaper in Singapore especially at Simtel Towers. Im envious, enjoy your trip.

@ Violet: If you are 4 days in Phuket then I would suggest that you do the sea kayaking with James Bond Island trip. Also try and get to Nai Yang beach which is the beach right next to where you are, there are a few nice restaurants on the beach.

IRC a taxi trip from the airport to Patong is about 500 to 600 Baht and you will be right next to the Airport. At night I suspect it will be more and you must at least experience one night in Bangla Rd. Tuk-tuks within Patong is 180Bht. Taxis in Bangkok is cheap, you must just insist that they use the meter.

I have seen all the ping pong shows: budgies, fish, cigarettes, blades, water going in and coke coming out, trumpets, shooting darts at balloons etc. I have not done it for ages though.

Here is some advice I gave in another thread. I have since gone again once more and am leaving next week for my tenth trip. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-in-December?p=4280747&viewfull=1#post4280747

Kuala Lumpur is just a big clean city with malls and the Petronas Twin Towers. Ons day is enough there. It is also quite expensive.

@ the guy who asked about hostels: No hostels really in Phuket except Phuket Town and that place is a ****hole. You are better off going to the Krabi area (Koh Lanta, Railay, Ao Nang etc) or the Samui side and Koh Phangan.

I was wondering what the ping-pong shows were so I googled it. Now i definitely have to go!

bwhahahahahaha!!

You can not go to phuket and not see one :D :D

I agree, it is an once in a lifetime experience. No sexuality, just a circus.

I am home on a Friday night to rest for my upcoming vacation. :D
