Should the South African national rugby emblem be changed from the springbok?

Agreed, but it never hurts to try anyways.

ANC are just slowly messing up this country.

Is it really to hard for them to get over the apartheid years?

I mean, if they did, they'd have nothing to fall back on!
Nothing happens in SA anymore without someone bringing up APARTHEID as an excuse.
 
OK, I am about to forward off the email but would want the website to be perfect by the time we do that?

When can we expect this? Currently the page has errors like "default footer text" at the bottom and could probably do with a nice big springbok logo on the front page to make it look "prettier" when the people link to it from the email. And perhaps a more apparent message right at the top of the front page telling them what we want them to do to make their voices heard. This is not obvious from the front page and you'd need to work out yourself to click on vote. Maybe introduce this in the first sentence.

The vote page is also not easy to understand. Also spotted some errors like "vote for or agains this website". No explanation as to what this means on that page... the user has to click the link to find out. Guys, not being critical, and it has been short notice, but we need to be very professional if we want to get listened to.

I am commenting as I experience the site myself now. When you click on vote for the Springbok emblem an option to display results is shown. If you view this there is no way to then go back and vote. The button no longer works and there is no back button. You would need to click back on your browser, and remember not everyone we are talking to is computer savvy. We need to make it easy. Already there are a lot of clicks to get to the voting... I think it should be on the front page with the news links able to be clicked through to.

If you guys need any help on the website i am a php and mysql developer and would love to help this worthy cause, just let me know how i can help, and as a proud South African i feel that the springbok unifies this country not the other way around.
 
We need a logo to jump start this project incorporating a springbok - one that could be spread to thousands of websites pointing to the the savingthespringbok campaign. Anyways i am connected to some smaller radio stations - DJ.s that will surely give us some air time on this plight. Get the web site sorted please.

DJK, I like the email but I was just thinking we maybe need to plant the seed about boycotting the next Springbok home game if our voices are not heard. Something like this will take a while to get all the people to read about and buy into so there may be no harm in including a sentence along those lines in this initial mail. It would also show the ultimate intention and let people know that this is serious with full plan in place.

This may also make SARFU stand up and notice that the fans are serious!

Am I wrong in saying

I joined this forum to find out if anyone can tell me if what I heard was right or wrong. A few years ago i heard that with regards to the Springbok being a symbol af apartheid is actullay incorrect. The true symbol of apartheid in sports is actually the Protea. The reason for this is because the Springbok was the national sports emblem from the turn of the century, long before aparthied was ever thought up and that the Protea was only used in the townships as a way to stick it to the South African government at the time. If this is correct then the real symbol of apartheid in sports in the Protea and that is why the government is so dead set on making he Protea the only national sports emblem. If they succeed in making the Protea the only sports embelm then they have done what they set out to do in the first place, and that is to make the true emblem of aparthied the national emblem.

Is there anyone out there who knows more about this?

I have been a Springbok supporter all my life and always will be. Why is the governement so against an emblem that has so untied South Africa since the ANC came to power. Is it true that the only thing they care about is getting rid of any connection to the past. Is the mandate of the ANC to wipe out white history in this country.

If that is the case it is truly upsetting to be South African, cause it seems like we only have a governement who cares about making life hard for everyone and not doing any good. To me it seems like they have no care for the people of this country, even the ones who voted for them. If they actually cared for the people of South Africa we could become such a powerful country, but instead they are only concerned with removing anything they feel was implemented by whites. It is sad to think of it like that, but that is how I see the government.

Hopefully i'm wrong but I doubt it.

Pointless IMHO. As we can see with the communications (Ivy) arena there is nothing you can do to alter the opinion of the GOV brainless communist fat pigs. It will remain a power grab and show for ever more.

Hey Lancelot - kingmonty has been helping in this respect and I emailed the webmaster of savingthespringbok as well in this respect. We are working together on this campaign and are always in contact so lets keep the idea rolling in. Lets do some constructive crit after 14:00 today but to be honest, I really think that the content is what is most important.

Yes, was just the email addresses. I did it at an ungodly hour this morning and forgot to change the email addys. I am updating it now...

I agree and hopefully kingmonty has been able to come up with something. Maybe someone else with graphic experience can help in this respect. I will email Keeper to find out as I know he is in to graphic design. Anyone else willing to help on the logo front?

We are in a unique position where we CAN do something - we can boycott if absolutely necessary bt I would prefer that to be a last resort - we can also start with the placard angle as well which will hopefully be televised. Sitting around thinking it is fruitless to do anything is akin to shouting at the tv from your living room - it won't change the outcome. Heaven knows we have all done our fair share of that to prove it to ourselves.

So stand with us and lets fight - this campaign will go ahead, but again, we need the numbers to show their support.

We need the masses - this email must circulate throughout South Africans, and those without email addresses must hear the message - that is our goal with this campaign. I want ALL rugby supporters to be behind one campaign - no more disjointed facebook groups, email petitions sent nowhere and websites that go no further. All of these intermediaries play a vital role in getting the message out - the message is important - but it is what we do with the support of that message thereafter that is more important.

So are you with us Uno? If so, then go visit the sites I mention and vote/pledge support...

Springbok predates the ANC

The Springbok was first used by the rugby team in a 1906 tour of England, led by Paul Roos.
The ANC came into being, or was founded in 1912.

For anybody to claim that this is a symbol of Apartheid or equal to the Swastika, is not just dumb, but illiterate to boot.

The Springbok has been carried proudly into sports by our sportsmen and women for over 100 years, carried proudly by all races that make up our country.
It has been carried into battle by our troops in the 1st World War, and the 2nd World War, where they distinguised themselves in many battles in North Africa and Italy.
It is viewed with respect by sportsmen and women from all the nations of the world, especially those who have faced it across a field.
It has distinguished itself on the battlefield and on the sports field, it deserves to be respected and honoured.
The Springbok as a symbol ranks with the Stars and Stripes, the Haka, the Fleur de Lis, and the Red Lion of England.
It is not some little thing to be tossed aside for petty politics.

Anyone who considers removing this symbol, is doing those who have carried it proudly, those who have earned the right to wear it, a grave injustice, an insult to their achievements and their memories.

It is more than a symbol, it is a heritage a national treasure, and should be declared as such.

Say's and explains all. All the GOV (and their supporters) priciples and achievements is based on this concepts and the current situation in Africa, Zim and now South Africa is claim to fame for it.
