Yeah, cause porn, alcohol and drugs are a new thing to society right? Its not like humans have being doing all 3 of those since the dawn of recorded history and often in worse volumes than we have now (decadence of Rome, Opium in China).
I have not read all the responses in this thread yet but after reading this one I was driven to respond. Wizard I have no idea what age you are but I am a young 36, and I can personally tell you about the moral decay within this country of ours. You may mention China and Rome but we live and are brought up in SA so this should be our point of reference. Yes, you cannot molly coddle and protect the people from access to porn etc for their whole lives but things were vastly different when I was young (and I know how that sounds to you but it is so true in this instance).
Remember we did not have access to the internet when I was a kid. In fact I was one of the first few people in my school chosen to do computer studies as an extra subject from Standard 8 on, back in 1987! The only exposure we had to "porn" (if you could even stretch it to call it that) was the odd Scope magazine, complete with stars on the nipples and not even a hint of pubic area, that a school mate would get his hands on courtesy of a brother in the army. If we were really "lucky" someone would bring a dog eared Playboy magazine that a family member had brought back to SA from overseas and you would see actual nipples and catch a glimpse of pubic hair if you really strained your eyes.
Now compare this to today's youth with full on hardcore porn a mere click away. Even Etv shows more nipples in two hours than I was probably exposed to in a year! Sexual connotations on TV are appalling now too. If you do not have a young child you will not even comprehend this, but I suggest watching TV with someone who is under 10 and see how often you will cringe at some of the references! All of a sudden even "innocent" shows like Two and a Half Men or Samantha Who become not suitable!
It's funny, we also seemed to respect women more than the young guys do nowadays but that is a whole new argument.
EDIT : And from personal experience I know that it does not stop at eventually seeing the odd nipple under the scratch off stars that came the way of Scope! You always want more! Even with porn. You always want something a little more way out.
Now I feel the problem too is that the youth are no longer exposed to sex in an innocent way. We used to have to "find our way" by ourselves. Today they first learn about sex from porn movies and then assume that this is the way sex should be in normal life.No more innocence and self discovery. Doesn't matter what anyone says, this has to be bad!
And by the way this comes from someone who is pro porn but feel it is really not something anyone under the ago of
at least 21 should not have access to!!
