Hi there

So I ported from Vodacom to 8Ta just to get the phone I wanted. Now all is well, but... Certain SMS's I simply cannot receive. Like their balance enquiry service, I never get the SMS. Also to register on their website, they SMS a code to complete the process, but I'm not getting it. I have some issues with other System SMS's as well, like my alarm company, I don't get their SMS's either. Others work just fine, like personal ones and online banking SMS's.

Any advice?

I logged a fault with 8Ta. That was 3 weeks ago.

Any way to know whether the port from Vodacom was completed?

Regards

sounds like the aggregator / gateway company/s used to send those SMS's has cached your number somewhere as linked to a network....

Its typical of MNP and amateur aggregators who dont bother to update their MNP databases on a regular basis.

So whats happening when your SMS's get lost is that they are sent to Vodacoms network, who drops it / replies with bad address since it doesnt own your number anymore.

Not much you can do about it but give it some time.

Sounds like the porting process didn't go smoothly. The routing table (if I can call it that) for your cell number is messed up. You need to take it up with both Vodacom and 8.ta. There are issues that could be causing the problem on either or both networks.

I'd file a complaint on HelloPeter as well, in fact 2 complaints, one for each operator. Also file complaints through each company's complaints department (and/or fault reporting department). In the start both companies will just blame each other, until you get pissed off enough to demand a resolution. Do this step first, rather than last when weeks have already passed with no resolution.

Trust me on this. Been there done that. Couldn't receive my inContact messages from FNB, couldn't receive SMS's from Clickatell or Facebook and I couldn't receive calls from Cell C or Virgin Mobile numbers. All outgoing messages/calls worked fine. Same thing happened to at least 3 other people I know who ported between networks.

That's also a possibility, though I doubt it. It's more likely a problem with the routing tables for his cell number on 1 or both networks. Check to see if your number can be reached from all networks (Vodacom, Cell C, MTN, 8.ta, Virgin, Telkom). If not, then it is definitely a routing issue and not a caching issue.
