Hi Gents,

So...I'm looking into buying a premium gaming laptop. The thing is I'm looking for something with bang for buck and with a long life-cycle (although premium laptops are Kek expensive with a relatively short life-cycle for gaming i just want to make the right decision).

I was looking into a Aorus x7 pro or the x5, cash not really the problem. I have a desktop at home (i7 2600k, 670gtx, 256ssd etc) which i would like to make a media centre but i would like to move away from the old desktop in a room setup (I'm long finished with UNI and have girlfriend living with me so that is a no-go zone) to a laptop easily playing a bit of x-com or dota somewhere close or in the study with a monitor setup if competitive.

The reason for me posting here is i would like to know, am I naive to think getting a laptop would be different from sitting in a desktop room (I'll only be sitting there when playing competitive dota)? Girlfriend hates it when i lock myself in and play dota for hours and i dont have reason like its a dgl match, maybe having a laptop would make it more user and spectator friendly if casually gaming (built is speakers with mic etc)...

Is the Aorus a viable option? They have been released about 6mnths ago, is there anything newer with same/better specs etc? Or should i for now stay with my current setup?

My setups so far:
PC (specs as in text)
ps4 (casual gaming while gf sleeps :) )
Dell xps 13 (work)

Awe hope your insight will enlighten me :)

Peace Ya'll

If you are going for performance and the best look , aorus is definitely your best choice

Yup, R70k is crazy imo, but SLI graphics, 2TB SSD, 32GB RAM, steelseries mechanical keyboard, etc...

didnt read the full specs, 2tb ssd :O

also could of had a 3/4k screen for that price
that will prob be R100 000

LOL 70K is a bit above my budget. Was looking at 30-35K and i have the rest, mech keyboard, gaming mouse, headphones etc. Would consider a good 4k screen although prices are still on the high end and it might just kill the SLI anyway. I have a 1080p isp monitor.

Also the 2TB 32GB is way overkill. 256 ssd + 1TB with 16GB RAM would do just fine. :)

35k to buy a laptop to play DOTA on instead of telling the GF to stop whining...

Better than 70K I guess :)

Nah its not like that, I do play DOTA a lot, but I'm inherently a gamer (I play a host of fps and rpg's), that does not always sit nicely with a Vrystaat boere meisie. Also I'm an engineer who loves his tech so i appreciate the smaller things. The thing is I want to move away from the sit alone in a room with a desktop thing while also keep up with my gaming, and i want to upgrade. To tell you the truth, I'm 28 and paying 35K now is nothing. In 10 years I'll pay 100k, F@ck, I'll pay anything to keep it up in the years to come. If you give your personal advice and say that I'm naive to think I'll get a few extra hour a week of gaming with a laptop then I'll appreciate your opinion. I did mention that the money is really not a THANG.

Would you be able to put a price on something like that?

That is precisely my advice, it won't make one iota of difference whether you're playing on a laptop or PC, she still won't like it. Either explain why you game to her and have your time with your hobby and hope she understands(if you're willing to shell out a small fortune to accommodate her I'm guessing you've tried this option) or stop gaming.

Throwing money at this problem won't fix it.

35k before or after tax and ****?
your doing good for yourself :) keep it up

how about this

its looks clean, not like a gaming laptop more like a normal everyday one and wont attract attention from the girl that much

and what above poster said,it wont fix it,but u can have a better excuse saying ur doing work on it :P
anyways, your girl should respect what u do,

give her the option,

game all day-she knows where u are and what you do
Or
stay out all day/night party or so and may "cheat"

so she know there is worse things out there that can happen,so she should be glad u do gaming

prob wont work well, giving her options like that, but have to find a way for her to understand

LOL I still think you misunderstood my problem. The least being my GF or money while the biggest is which laptop and do you think getting a laptop is moving away from the desktop in a room vibe. But cool thanks, I guess it's still going to be a "laptop" room setup.

Thanks Syber, will defs have a look at the Wootware prices etc. Sorry should probably not have mentioned the GF thing, she's really chilled. I just sometimes feel like a box if I run into the PC room checking some DOTA replays for 30min while i cloud have done it in front of the tv with her. Its just "onpersoonlik" as an afrikaans person would say. But thanks for the advice to say playing games would still be locked in a dark room vibe.

If it's still within the house why not upgrade the GPU and then use Nvidia Shield to the laptop?
Would come out a lot cheaper.

Wow that looks really cool :) shield has come a long way since i first read about it. Wont be going for something like that as I'm a bit of a hardware enthusiast and I really want something mind blowing. This will be my first overpriced and overkill laptop.

Will be going with the Aorus x7 pro-sync, probs with a gaming room type setup, laptop cooler, extra monitor etc. Will order mid next month as bonus will be paid out by then :) thanks for all your help. Will keep you posted with a review.
