Seeing as I am asking Vodacom, it's only fair that we get some feedback from MTN regarding the same issue:

What is MTN's stance regarding the selling of contract subscribers' contact information? Does MTN sell (or give) subscriber contact information at all to third parties, other business units within MTN or partners (or even competitors) of MTN? Has MTN ever done so in the past?

i've been with mtn for 7 months now and haven't received anything, although 2 weeks after applying for standard banks achiever account i got a woolies card.

been with MTN since 2001, never had anyone except mtn offer me a card.

People I know who have absa accounts are always getting tons of unsolicited BS and credit card offers

Three years ago I wrote MTN's information handling policy which clearly states that any sale or exposure of customer information is a dismissible offence. Last month this guide was updated but that clause remains, so I doubt anyone there would consider doing it on the sly. As for company policy, I seriously doubt that they would sell this data either - competitors could easily use it to poach people wanting to port.

I'm on MTN pay as you go and I've got Cell C calling me once a week, Virgin Mobile about once a month. Nashua mobile a couple of times in the last year or 2. A few insurance brokers...
Once they have a name connected to a number it never ends...
