Pupil guns down alleged bully

This is not about guns, you are missing the point, this is about society issues. If not a gun, it would have been a knife or a bat.
We have a much more serious issue here.

Well wouldn't they be found too? I mean in the states they have metal detectors at the entrances to schools, why is that such a bad idea here?

Between the hours of 07:30 and 2:00 pm the school is paid to do a job.

If the school was aware of this bully they should have sorted the issues out, according to scholars on 702 this bully was terrorizing many students and it has been going on for a while. What has the school done about it? It is not up to the parents to ensure the safety of scholars it is up to the school.

Having said that, the SAPS/Metro officer should have ensured the weapon was unreachable to anyone else but herself as she is the gun owner / licensed person responsible for that weapon. She was at work (apparently) why did she not have the weapon on her person if it was a service weapon?

So yes I hate bullies at schools and there are 4 guilty parties being the bully, the accused, the mother of the accused and the school and all carry responsibility of different proportions.

Hopefully more definate information will come to light but based on info at hand this is my opinion on this very sad matter.

Let me tell you about the bully who broke my son's arm last year...

Principal's response : "We are aware this boy has been having anger issues. He comes from a broken home".

His mother's reponse " I just don't know what to do with him. I have 3 other children to take care of".

How are children going to learn bullying is wrong if no one bothers to teach them? When is this child going to bring a gun or knife to school?

She returned at the end of her night shift and went to bed, only to be awakened a few hours later by her armed colleagues swarming into her house wanting to arrest her son.

A Grade 10 pupil, Nkululeko Ndlovu, 18, had been shot dead.

Nkululeko Ndlovu, who was shot dead by his classmate. He was believed to be a bully and tortured other pupils at school.

Her son was the prime suspect – and he had apparently used her service pistol to shoot his tormentor dead.

She protested that her pistol was in its locked safe when she’d got home. The officers demanded to see it. Ejecting the magazine, they showed her that bullets were missing.

I get the feeling that you were the bully in school. That or you have no idea of the mental and emotional toll that being bullied takes on someone, especially a youth.

I was not a bully, nor was I bullied. I was sort of in the middle ;)

What CAN the school do? These children now have more rights than the teachers!

I have no sympathy for bullies...while I understand that many of them have problems at home, it doesn't stop me from wanting to go to school and clouting the crap out of them
The re-introduction of corporal punishment would have many bullies thinking twice.

That is correct. Six of the best really does work, contrary to what many people believe.

I do'nt feel much for the bully, his parents fault though. The poor guy snapped and retaliated with extreme measure. At that age you are so vulnerable. I hope this murderer gets away with a light sentence due to extenuating circumstances, his mother should go to jail though for letting her jid get access to her service gun - fail!

Truth be told teachers are helpless and toothless against bullying as the bully will just transfer his bullying to where the teachers can't see. I've seen how bullying can break a teen and it is sad. Get your kid a tazer or pepper spray and tell him to use it as anyone would in self defence.

This all reminds me of that old Marilyn Manson song, Lunchbox.

Lyrics:

the big bully try to stick his finger in my chest
try to tell me, tell me he's the best
but I don't really give a good goddamn cause
i got my lunchbox and I'm armed real well

Seriously? Are they allowed in schools?
It would certainly stop some of the bullying going around, before it gets to the point where someone is seriously hurt.

Shame were you a school bully...feeling insecure now trying to justify your bullying?
That nerdy kid you bullied now your boss?

Lol seriously though I have been bullied and have bullied in my school life and being on the wrong end of it is alot more difficult than doing the bullying. Its easy to understand how a kid bullied enough may do such things,i have seen students in my class when bullied by a teacher burn that idiot teachers cars to ashes and I dont blame them one bit, bullies deserve it.I regret having ever bullied the one or two that i did bully and ended up befriending them and believe it or not one dude became my best friend,we had so much more in common than I initially thought.

Although killing is harsh he probably got caught up in the moment and emotional trauma of it all.Think about it, he didn't have the power to hit back and the gun was his only option,he must've even thought if he shoots him to just injure him and then the guy will recover and come at him even worse.

O lord. You really don't seem to understand. I was never a bully, but I was also never bullied. Always cruised there in the middle lane. I have also seen many bullies getting a beating for picking on the wrong guy, or picking on someone in front of the wrong crowd, and that put a smile on my face. Once a new guy in school (for some reason he started out at the top, who knows how these things work) came to me and spat on my shoes, so I punched him in the nose, in class. We both got a hiding of note, and we were sort of 'friends' afterwards.

I find it ridiculous that people condone shooting of a bully. He could have waited a few months, and the bully would have been out of school and he would have been the senior  A proper beating, or something, but shoot to death? Really now.

don't mind him, he's just a snot eater.

LOL you go girl

Something to think about...a way for our children to defend theselves. Self defence classes in school?

Geez, you'd think schools are warzones :erm: And what can teachers do with kids that abuse tazers and pepperspray? Because it WILL happen.

No, not tazers and pepperspray...self-defence classes.I'm guessing a bully would think twice about messing with someone if he's aware they can defend themselves...and if you want to see a warzone, you should come visit the local public high school during break and after school.

I see just about all of you does not understand the underlying cause. 6 of the best won't help. And neither can the school or parents. Bullying and other mental disorders, can only be treated by a qualified doctor and even then the success is not written in stone. If a child or adult is bullying someone, his or her mental imbalance is in a pretty advanced stage already. Depending on the symptoms the person has some other mental issues too, albeit undiagnosed. While is not easy for a bullied child to go thru all the trouble, there is a quick fix. Unfortunately there is no such thing for the bully or his/her family. To say this or that must be done is like saying one should blame the rain queen for the flood. WTF

Remember a while ago when a kid stabbed his bully in the states and got acquitted under the "Stand your ground" defense? Read up more on it here.

"Stand your ground" governs U.S. federal case law in which right of self-defense is asserted against a charge of criminal homicide. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in Beard v. U.S. (158 U.S. 550 (1895)) that a man who was "on his premises" when he came under attack and "...did not provoke the assault, and had at the time reasonable grounds to believe, and in good faith believed, that the deceased intended to take his life, or do him great bodily harm...was not obliged to retreat, nor to consider whether he could safely retreat, but was entitled to stand his ground."[2][3]

Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. declared in Brown v. United States (1921) (256 U.S. 335, 343 (16 May 1921)), a case that upheld the "no duty to retreat" maxim, that "detached reflection cannot be demanded in the presence of an uplifted knife".[4]

More on that story here
A judge’s ruling, made public Tuesday, granted a motion to dismiss the second-degree murder charge against Jorge Saavedra in the death of 16-year-old Dylan Nuno on the grounds that he acted in self-defense under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. The State Attorney’s Office has indicated that it will not appeal the ruling.

Nuno’s family and friends criticized Collier County Circuit Judge Lauren Brodie’s decision, calling it “unbelievable” and “heartbreaking.”

“We know this wasn’t the right decision,” said Dylan’s aunt, Adriana Nuno.“(The judge) is showing those kids it’s OK to get away with murder.”

Saavedra, who was 14 at the time of the stabbing, was charged as a juvenile. If found guilty, the former Palmetto Ridge High student would have been released by the age of 21.

Brodie’s ruling concluded that Saavadra, who said he was bullied and tried avoid a fight with Nuno, did not act unlawfully. She added that Saavadra had more than enough reason to believe he was in danger of death or great bodily harm.
