I remember having uncapped included in my package back in the day. It does however seem like an extra which I think the Landlord might have included in the rent anyway. What I like about Sky is that the Sports package is completely separate sub apart from the main bundle.*** And you can get it as a separate I THINK***

You need the "Original" Bundle as well....

So it seems Sky have a baseline bundle that everyone must take, and then you can tack on on top of that....

But I personally do like that idea as well, I would happily pay less for DSTV and still get all the sports.

Netflix is even worse when it comes to new content.By the time anything gets to Netflix it already been around for a year. Yes, Netflix is cheaper, but the content is older. Netflix was worth it for the first year to catchup any shows you missed. But once you have been through Netflix, you will be lucky to watch 2 shows a month.

DSTV's problem is that its in a crap region. There is nothing they can do about that. The region licensing is something the main studios in the US and Europe need to sort out. Get rid of it. I cant see this happening because a significant portion of their financing comes from the US networks who are willing to pay a premium to secure exclusivity for a season.

In the UK shows get locked out because UK networks have an exclusive lock on a season.

As long as US networks have the viewers they will have the advertising revenue to pay for these exclusive rights and thereby lock others out. I dont see any VOD services willing to the pay to unlock these contracts. Since some of them hardly charge for their services they wont have the cash to compete with US networks. So unless you are willing to pay more for VOD(which you wont), you will have to wait or access some dodgy sites and risk desktop/laptop being hacked :)
 
I'm very lucky to have a Staff Account via a family member. Premium with all the bells & whistles for R280 per month. But I only watch sport. Everything else I watch, movies, series etc., I download and watch at leisure with no adds.

My kids watch all the cartoon channels, but I can probably download that as well for them.

If it wasn't for the Staff discount, I would not have DSTV.

It is silly to moan about repeats. It is impossible and illogical to expect new content 24/7. Technically DSTV costs a Premium Subscriber R26 per day. If you only watch 2 hours per day, that equates R 13 per hour. Is that really expensive? If there is nothing at all for you to watch on DSTV for 2 hours per day, you will never ever be pleased or satisfied.

Have had Netflix now for about a year and not even close to running out of anything to watch. Change regions and bam, whole new line-up. Would take quiet a while to be at a stage where I can say, hey Netflix doesn't have anything new for me to watch.

Same here, I have Staff account thanks to a fried who works for DSTV.

I must say I prefer downloading to streaming since then I'm fully in control.

Nea, just way too much crap I need to store and hardly ever watch any. I have to admit, wife does store loads of stuff she gets from someone at work on her Laptop. This is new series and movies. Netflix is the main source of TV in our house though. I can't be arsed to spend hours downloading :p

I guess to each his own. For me streaming is a pain especially when your viewing pleasure is a 100% internet connection dependant. I download between 12pm and 6am. Sickbeard, Couchpotato etc does it all.

I wake up and have two full series downloaded. I do agree that the storing and copying and "DO I already have this episode?" etc, does become tedious. I tend to build up series until I copy and store once a month.

The rest of the time I just watch whatever takes my fancy whenever I want to.

The funny thing is ... here in the UK I hear very similar discussions, despite the huge number of choices. [Doesn't mean it's the same here, it's MUCH better, but the levels of expectation are so much higher]
 
I stopped my DSTV 8 years ago. and don't miss it.

Gave my TV away 3 years ago and don't miss it as well.

I understand that people get frustrated. Their frustration however is driven by their personal needs/requirements when it comes to broadcast tv and that is why I can disagree with, but still respect, your frustration.

What I would like to know however: what would YOU like? I see many times that people complain about repeats, but when probed for more details re. their gripe, the conversation always veers off on a "We pay too much" tangent.

When complaining about DSTV it is important to distinguish between the Repeat and the Money issue. Personally I think that the Repeats are inevitable and thus a moot point really.

The bouquets however should be unbundled for more choices and more "value".
 
You can protest as much as you want, unless there is an alternative they will just continue laughing at you and beating you with the same price increases - must like our pathetic oxygen thief government - we are feeding them our tax money and they are fukcsking us over.
 
It's more than the daily repeats. More than the monthly repeats. The stuff is even repeated year after year. Quit for a couple of years and still many lifestyle channels are repeating the same content.

Furthermore, much of the content is pre-2008 on channels life Travel, BBC lifestyle, and so on.

For me it's not the fact that there are repeats, it's how many repeats there are. I do understand the need for repeats. But DSTV is excessive. Also, as others have stated, it's the repeating of the ads between shows. I've seen the same show advertised at every break between the same show. It's ludicrous.

I had DSTV Compact. Cancelled the account and took out the StarSat full account. Yes, StarSat also has a lot of repeats, but I'm only paying half the price! StarSat + Hulu is working out perfectly for me. Much more for much less. Very, very, very happy without DSTV!
