I got hold of MTN again, told them that i'm being billed R14000 for 168mb of data and that its a billing error and that they must fix it. They point blank refuse. They Say that this can only be investigated after the 7th of December. According to them, I must wait till then and their nothing more that they can do.
have you had your account for more than 6months? yes? cancel the debit order with them and move to eft, else they can take all or a large chunk of your money early december(do this today). then after that you pay via eft, you can reinstate debit order again later or not at all.

I'm planning to cancel the debit order. From what i've experienced with MTN before, they will take the money, find that it was mistake, put the money into my MTN account and not my bank account. I can also make manual EFT's every month from now on. Needless to say, I don't trust MTN. Even if they fix this problem, they've already lost me as a client forever.

BTW that data was on the myMTN apn sp just check where that data came from and make sure you use afrihost apn.

I unfairly judged against Afrihost here, sorry about that!

Just a bit shocked that something like this can happen, but from the previous posts it seems like MTN would rather smudge their name in the mud then help out an honest mistake

I'll definitely avoid anything to do with MTN if that is their attitude.

Get your Afrihost logs too so you can show you've been using their APN.

Good luck with MTN- keep calling back until you get escalated to a manager.

I had an issue that took almost a month to sort out.

I eventually got the landline number of someone at head office and had to call them. Often. At my own expense

**** MTN. I've moved on since. Take this subtle hint- port!

Do not take this crap from MTN.

Happened to one of my best friends, he got a bill for R16000 from MTN and told to pay immediately.

Between him and his wife, their monthly spending was on average R1200 for the last six months, so no way they have used up so much airtime or data.

When he requested the itemised billing from them, they would not give it to him, and then MTN started sending him lawyer letters.

So he got a good lawyer, and a while later received a letter from MTN that they considered the case as closed, with no mentioning what the real issue was.

Straight after the incident he ported to Telkom Mobile and told me he couldn't be happier, as between him and his wife, they are now saving over R500 monthly.

I've put the screenshot on twitter. They should start paying attention soon.

On a side note, useful app for APN management on Android, i suggest Afrihost look at this as possible things they can do with their own app (i.e. adding a widget that can show usage/APN on the home screen). In the meantime , this app works pretty well for me to view my current APN regularly. The app should also ensure you stay on said APN after a reboot.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gudaps.apnname&hl=en
[✔] Show current APN on Notification
[✔] Open APN settings from Notification
[✔] Open APN settings from Widget
[✔] Show current APN on Widget
[✔] APNs distinguished by number
[✔] APNs distinguished by color
[✔] connect/dicsonnect state
[✔] customized APN name

You can't with us, however some devices do switch over to the default APN at times :( We've introduced notifications that can be enabled via the ClientZone which notifies you if you haven't connected to our APN after xhours, days etc.

Where do I find this or is only for contract sims?

You will be lucky to get out of this one, I'm sorry to say.

I did a BF3 update that was around R22000 because my uncapped bundle didn't kick in... I believe I got off because the SMS instruction from MTN wasn't clear.

You will have to wait until end of the billing month before you may launch a complaint and for them to start the investigation.
They provided NO feedback, so you will need to chase them the whole time.

First off, change your MTN payment from debit to EFT.
Then get a lawyer, or start reading up on the national credit act, consumer protection act, or any other act that may be mildly relevant.

Things to look out for is false advertisement (misinformation/omitted information/... in any and all notifications) from MTN.
Find out what the maximum allowed credit MTN may have given you, anything above that number you may be able to get out of.
Anything and everything that even smells like it might help you.

Then when the 7th come, you make the complaint and be sure to mention each and every point so that it is recorded.

If you can make 15 (mildly accurate) accusations of faults on their part, even if only 3 is spot on. That's at least 2 or 3 (maybe 4) days for whoever to work through (eish, lots of work eh?), that might just save your behind if the facts themselves don't.

GL!

Dude. Sorry about that. Can't believe that in this day and age, **** like this still goes down. A R14000 debt might put some families out for months...

Tweeted. Hope they sort you out.

This thread freaks me out, as i'm on contract. Sure i check every now and then that i'm on the right APN. But last night i just grabbed the phone, updated COD without thinking. Now if there is no MTN apn i will never run into this problem.
