R149 uncapped mobile data SIM launched

They are just reselling a data pool and clients are connecting via their APN. They are then just applying content filtering via the core network firewalls. This is pretty much what Afrihost and Axxess are doing, except DATA SIM are hoping that their content filter policies will allow them to have users actually use less than R149 worth of data and make a profit on each subscriber. If there are one or two data hogs, the excess data from the majority of lower end data users should subsidize the higher end data users.

How will they know if a site is porn or not?

They will block sites that use a lot of data.

They will probably just look at the logs every day and block them as they see them... but you can expect all the big ones to be blocked up front, Pornhub, Redtube etc.

Come to think of it... this might be a good idea for a kids phone/tablet.

lol I couldn't help but laugh . . .and we all know which part is the most turn off about this statement, just saying:p

I may just try it out, depending on the MyBroadband report that's coming. For me it depends whether gaming related services will work like Steam and XBox Live.

i think it was one of the conditions they were given by the wholesaler, in my opinion they were trying to protect their network from deteriorating very bad by including such conditions.

This reminds me of the Mtn R50 24 hour unlimited data bundle, it sounds good but when you read the fine print all is revealed, like the Mtn bundle where they throttle you after 150MB

MyBroadband ordered one of these SIM cards, and will report back as soon as we receive it.

[-]MyBroadBand should really test these services first before releasing what is ultimately free advertising? So, to redeem themselves I suggest that one myBB dude (Jan?) with his own credit card should get cracking on some proper feedback...[/-]

When my adsl was down... hmmm ok fine, my modem & router blew up but that's besides the point, I tried this MTN R30 24 hour prepaid uncapped and I tell you what - I was highly impressed! On two separate occasions!! HD Youtube with no buffering and no ads (must be mobile data thing?) for HOURS! Netflix worked like a charm and general internet browsing was fast. ...as it should be!

Would definitely recommend it for above requirements but have no idea how well it works with torrents, large http downloads, news servers, vpns etc.

Will Playstation & Xbox updates work?
Also Multiplayer connectivity as mentioned earlier

Also CatchUp Plus on Explora?

With reports like these, I think common sense prevails, although there will always be some suckers, at this time MyBB being the first.

If Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, Cell C, NeoTel and pretty much all other services providers cannot provide users with truly unlimited data, what makes this company so special and what infrastructure do they have?

Not only here in SA, but this is the norm around the world. No services provider offers unlimited data. Everyone implements a FUP, where users are blocked after consuming 'x' amount of data, or restricted from downloading large files or using certain services.

This is another failure in the making if their T&C's are not openly revealed.

My guess would be no. This product is most likely only meant for browsing and will probably be throttled heavily after a certain threshold.

There are just too many ways to get around the website blocks so they will have to throttle.

Everyone speculating on why its so cheap (throttling after 100MB, services blocked, etc.) I think the answer is much simpler- its a SCAM. Collect the money "From limited time offer" and make your way out...

Hope to be proven wrong

Yes, there was a certain company who was also promoted, in fact here on MyBB as well, offering 'unlimited data'. In a couple of month hundreds of millions of rands were made, until the 'unlimited data' offer suddenly ended.

A nice sure way of getting rich quick :)
