Some think it's the worst deal ever, some think it's the best.....

I have left Vodacom, for MTN, just because of this service.

You guys just need Hotfile and a proper download manager that can resume. :p

Keep it up MTN, your Uncapped R50 deal is AWESOME! :whistling:

What manager do you use? Will downthemall work?

I'm keen to give this a bash on a prepaid SIM. I have enough stuff to get to make use of the initial, trial R50. If all goes well, I can do it again. Are weekends faster?

MiPony. it's built for hotfile and rapidshare/etc - plus with the latest version you can control it from your Phone!

In the latest version you it also enters captcha's for you apparently, so you don't need accounts to all those services.

In my experience, week days are faster, as less people are using the network.

good Q..was also wondering about whether or not the E1820 speedstick would work on their(MTN) network

It must do as MTN also sells this brand of Huawei (at least, I saw them in black with MTN branding in the MTN shop at Greenstone yesterday).

They sure do, although after the experience ive had with testing 3 of these modems (out of 3 for the pedantic) i would steer well clear of the damn thing, unless you are in a VERY well covered area...

Btw, network strength was at 93 % and when i inserted my vodacom sim it was a whooping 97% (All 3 networks connected via WCDMA/HSPA+) which vodacom recently launched in Nelspruit.

Anybody experiencing dead speed on the uncapped lately??? When you surf with a normal data bundle it's fine but after you get the 24 hour bundle it just dies after they throttle you down (o_O)??! I'm getting 0 - 4kbps, like wtf?!

It's been two saturdays already...

Yep.

There was a flaw in the system and sometimes it wouldn't throttle you at all...... seems it is fixed now. :(
Although.......it kicks in at 300MB, not 150MB

Oh I check, i tried again last week and got 7kbps on torrents... Apparently, after speaking to one of their technicians, they throttle it down to 128 kilobits per second / 1024 which actually gives us 0.125 kilobytes per second (o_O)...

How the **** is that uncapped internet?:erm:

No. 128 kbits/sec equates to 128/8 kByte/sec = 16 kByte/sec

Yeah, well, no one has yet answered the the question, namely, what/how much are you currently able to download on one of these R50-00 "uncapped" data bundles ...

If you can realisticly get 1.2-1.5 GIG. then it is worth it, if you get less not, if you get more, then you have reason to smile ... :)

Of off the top of my head, I'd say 1.5GIG. was attainable if MTN don't play foul ... , and stick to the stated speeds ..

PS: went shopping for a pre-paid data modem yesterday, everywhere I went Vodacom. MTN, Cell-C, no pre-paid data modems in stock. Cell-C however did have their pre-paid with bundled data + modems in stock, which was not what I wanted.

PPS: Was at CNA, looking for a PS3 game for the kid, and they had a Vodacom K4505Z, so I bought it ... , put a 110M data on it, and blew it watching YouTube vids, for the first time ever - "WHAT A PLEASURE" - the 110M didn't last that long :(

with the speeds we are experiencing today, even 1GB is not gonna get you very far.
