It looks like we shall now have to wait several weeks for the next strong front to reach the Cape. A spell of unstable thundery weather is forecast for 27th-29th May that hopefully will bring 20-40 mm of rain in the catchment areas.

:(

Windguru (GFS 27km) predicts quite a bit of rain next week Friday - but that will probably also dwindle away.

WRF 9km forecast predicts some rain this Friday evening too, but not a lot.

Every forecast model, and each 6/12 hourly update is different!?

This one shows 18mm on Fri 18th: http://clients.customweather.com/1STWX/forecasts.php?type=15-day&wid=FACT#tabs-5

Jonkershoek sitting at just under 90mm of rain month to date.

SAEON Dwarsberg recorded 57mm yesterday (Tues 8th). This sounds fantastic, until you realise the annual average for that mountain catchment station is 3000mm.

From this one storm there should be some runoff into the Berg River dam (2-4%), not so much into Theewaterskloof (<1%).

Still need another 20-30 cold-fronts to make up a decent winter...

A very disappointing time for the rest of the week and the entire week ahead. The low pressure areas along the west coast are not moving north and east as they should be this time of the year. The South Atlantic High pressure areas are remaining in place. Between these two almost static formations, the cold fronts approach and then get pushed southwards past the country.

Another front appears to be hitting on Friday. Hoping it makes landfall and drops some decent rain.

They claim it will be wet on Sunday. Which is good timing because I'm doing another 100 miler ride on Saturday.

Berg River dam up by 1% in the week up to Mon 14th, other dams much less so (overall 0.5%). Barely keeping up with consumption, and limited inflow from the moderate rains on Tues 8th.

According to Tom Brown -> https://showme.co.za/paarl/lifestyle/nature-outdoors/cape-water-and-dams-report-102/ - we are now level with 2017 numbers which is great. I have been keeping records and in OCT17, the gap was 22% - so job well done.

Today's weather according to News24 :D

yeah its crazy hot outside, I just came back from my morning walk wearing a shirt with no jacket and sandals like its a normal sunny summer day

I'm no expert, but from what I remember from geography in Std 7, low pressure is usually followed by high pressure, so maybe this is the silence before the storm so to speak

We had thunderstorms and rain last night up here.

No rain or thunder had been predicted.

Muggy warm this morning... how be the Cape of Good Hope then?

I was going to post on that weather system (for your benefit). A trough moving down the west coast of Namibia today (Fri 18th) will bring very heavy showers to the area between Walvis Bay and Luderitz. Some forecasts showed as much as 25-50mm possible in places, which is more than the annual average rainfall in that desert region.

The trough will move down towards Cape Town tomorrow (Sat 19th), though it will have lost most of its impact by then. Lots of cloud is likely over the weekend, but not much rain.
