Rain DNS Issues

Hate to break it to you, but the problem seems to have returned. Same issue, as of this morning. (Was fine yesterday.)

Just saw your question - I set it on both the Router and OS Network properties. No performance issues.

Thanks Chris8. Will try it out if it doesn't resolve soon.

Can you let me know exactly what you are experiencing and steps we can use to replicate on our side?

Thanks for all the confirmations from everyone else... The problem is still ongoing, and seems randomly intermittent between sites. Eg, I can get to dailymail.co.uk today (which originally was dead) but office.com takes 3 weeks to load and then doesn't load completely... (still as per my original screenshot)

Changing DNS doesn't work for me all the time, I have to keep changing and I'm tired of that. Just wasting money on Telkom data in the meantime.......

Has this been escalated to IS? As I don't think anyone at Afrihost or Rain would be able to sort this out....

We can definitely raise this directly with RAIN, depending on where the backhaul is pulling data from.

Any other sites other than office.com? That are currently inaccessible or much slower than they should be?

Just about any Microsoft site... Dailymail.co.uk was totally inaccessible 2 weeks ago but is now fine. It seems intermittent between sites, but definitely ALL affected sites uses local Akamai servers.... I've noticed others where sites load fine with no images, and then a bit of digging shows the images live in Akamai serverland.. If I come across any in the next day or 2, i'll post links...

Please also post a traceroute to the affected site so we can see where traffic is hitting problems.

Same as before. Steam. (Also a local Akamai server.) Takes forever to load even partially. No images or styles.

I've asked our network team to take a look and escalate to RAIN if we can replicate this on our side :(

So, I see the RAIN network issue is not resolved. I cannot ping, or resolve anything, even with the Google DNS servers. Any update on the issue?

The previous issue was resolved to my knowledge. IT's either reoccurring or might be a similar issue. I've asked the network team to look into it for us :(

We're having problems recreating this on our side. Can we maybe look for any commonalities?

If you are experiencing these issues, please post with which city you live in and area, as well as the sites you've noticed are giving these issues.

JHB, Randburg/Cresta

Only the two sites posted in my trace routes personally so far.

And it's working right now, seems to be intermittent as suggested by Racer above.

That may be why we're having trouble replicating the results on our side. :( could you perhaps time-stamp your traces when it happens again?

I'm close to you (Northcliff/Fairlands), I don't think I'm with Afrihost yet (I-Burst/Rain Early Connect - Afriman should know what that means), and don't game or stream much. I could try and run a tracert as well and see what I get.

Afrihost WhatsApp. Brilliant idea. Yet nobody responds to queries apart from the automated initial reply. Then at 16h06 they terminate the message, albeit their hours are until 17h00. More importantly though is that Nobody from Afrihost has bothered to help. Tried THE PM method after a request from Afriman. No reply. Lodged queries and kept trying.

It seems Cape Town gets more RAIN than us. An LTE offering that gives me 0.8mbps. Easy to blame network congestion, why not accept responsibility and try address the issue together with RAIN, or offer your paid up customers an alternative for forking out for 110gb they cannot access. How about offering customers to walk away from their subscriptions (yes it's more than to month but if you leave before 6 months one is charged R999 cancellation fee). I'm at 5 months or so, so am obliged to pay for another month even though I cannot access the data I've paid for.

Afrihost do not care about customer support. After being with them for many years, quite disappointed.

Sadly they won't notice as their customers leave.

Come on Afrihost. I offer you right of reply to prove me wrong. Try, please try. Please let me access the data I have paid for.

If there are any senior managers at Afrihost who vaguely appreciate customers and are proud of their product, I challenge you to be accountable and address issues.

You might still be on the same network. Traceroute will definitely help :(

I'm also on the Early Connect thing so definitely on same network. :D

Next time it happens will timestamp. Been fine for the last couple days.

Mmh, how can it still not be resolved after a month?
People are probably just assuming the sites are acting up... there's a huge amount of sites using akamai!

Extremely frustrating, especially for those trying to use Steam

And with Cell C:

Looks like you're tracing to different IP addresses here - so it's difficult to compare. Can you trace to the same IP you used on cell c?
