RAIN Huawei 5G CPE Pro settings

we had load shedding 3-5 this afternoon, as soon as power came on i did speed test 299mb/s down and 59mb/s up

It's bizarre that it took them so long to come out and check the alarms...

Glad it's sorted though
that is rain, they waited till one of the bosses tells them go fix, they don't want to think, and come up with solutions, it is easier to say to user move your router and do hard reset, than to fix the real problem

Good morning, Thank you for your post. Please let us have the email address that you used to sign up for services so we can investigate the matter for you.

latest message I rcvd from support this afternoon?????

Good day Arnoldus,

I'd like to apologize profusely for the inconvenience caused.

Kindly note that the towers in your area have service affecting alarms.

Please note that I have escalated the matter to our senior networks department and i will revert back to you with feedback as soon as I receive it.

Thanks,

Salome Sekgobela

Praise God, My rain woes finally over, after a month of battling with average speed of 45.4 mb/s at 2 am in the morning and 33 mb/s during day, I hit for the first in over two months 330 mb/s and average of 287mb/s, Yesterday during the day and evening I averaged around 160 mb/s. Conrad Leigh was of great help in getting Pieter Neuhoff and Heinie Gentle involved, and within 3 days they resolved my issue, Thank you Guys, now please train your call centre staff, on how to assist clients
Wish someone would do the same here .... been struggling since mid April - no solution in site - just promises - no action that I can see - fiber cant come soon enough - its planned but no idea when - potential customers - steer well clear

Guys, just thought I'd ask. We have about 4 towers in my area, all are less than 5km from my exact location. Now our CPE connects to a tower located in an area with a lot, I mean a lot of power outages which in turn hits our connectivity, I'd really hate to live in that area however the speed is not below 300mbps if all is in order.
The CPE is installed outdoors on the 3rd floor looking at the closest tower, now my question is, if I install it on the rooftop, on a 4m pole so it can see other towers past the closest tower, would we still have a connection during power outages?

Short answer - No

Rain doesn't currently have power at its towers during LS

Currently I connect wither to the tower 2.5km away or 3.7km away in the neighbouring area when we are power cut

Is there anyway to get better ping?

A week ago it was constantly under 15ms. Now its over 40ms.

What would have changed...

few people ( including myself ) have seen increase in latency - have a look here: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/rain-5g-my-experience-network-setup.1094837/page-5

have PM'd @rain_mobile & @rain_networks - but all i got was :

"
Thank you, kindly note that an escalation has been sent for you, we apologize for the inconvenience.

One of our agents for the networks division will be in contact with you as soon as possible.
"

no one has contacted me yet since yesterday, but I have noticed increased pings since the beginning of September...

Same in my case here from Pretoria since probably August though! My ping used to be around 13-14 and now it's around 33-34 and sometimes up to 73-74! I don't know what to do now! I cant really play anymore online games. Also jitter seems to be more unstable since I got my router in April, it's really annoying when you play online games so I hope they fix it soon.

And Rain 5g is down the drain again in mayville, at 8H30 internet went down, came back on 09H10 and now it is slow as hell, I emailed Conrad Leigh, and his team, to get their crap sorted, went from 260 -417 mb/s to less than 60 mb/s in minutes

Im still having speed issues as well ,@meggadon123 would you be able to send me a DM with Conrad Leigh's email address too please, so I can mail him as well. I've been struggling with this since 26 July. From about 5 pm til 12 pm internet is barely usable,as in only getting 10mbps, then from 12 am you can see it pics up, here by about 3 am it reaches over 350mbps. And I get the same robotic response where to reset the router, switch on/off, remove and re-insert the sim card, "We have de-latched your sim card" is also one they have been using a lot lately. And by the looks of it my signal is a lot stronger than some people here, even when its connecting to a tower thats almost 4km away, yet there is a tower 500m away from me. It's BS to pay R999 for a service that only works for a couple of hours a day, if I knew this was going to happen I never would have bought it....

Hi,

Sorry for long post - but managed to get my DL speeds from 10 mbps yesterday to consistent 420+ with improved upload and reduced ping so thought Id post my experience in case someone might find it useful...

I received my external router yesterday. After initial setup and testing from various windows in my house I was getting a max DL speed of 10 mbps. I was testing using speedtest.net connecting to Rain Jhb.

After changing the Antenna to FIXED and retesting, I found that my best location was on the opposite side of my house to the blue dot on the optimiser page. I also noticed that the results varied drastically depending on which direction the router faced. I'm assuming its due to fixed antenna 3 setting having the antenna on the right of the LEDS all green in the online help.

My download speed was now maxing out at 220 mbps - was happy with it as its in line with the average mentioned on the Rain shop.

This morning, I wanted to know how good the 220mbps speed actual was. I have an inverter in my bakkie so decided to drive around my neighborhood with the router to see what speeds I could get if conditions were better i.e. closer to various towers in the area with clear line of site.

Max speed I got was 450 mbps - not so happy with the 220 mbps anymore. When I got home I tried the router at different heights in the direction of I towers I found earlier in the day. Every one of them is obstructed by trees. I did manage to get 380 mbps in one of my tests where the router was orientated with the back of the router (opposite LEDS) in the general direction of one of the towers (but to the left of the palm tree obstructing line of sight). The 380 mbps was pretty consistent over multiple tests - I had found where my device will be installed.

After installing the device in its final location, the 5G signal was not being picked up. When unplugging and reconnecting the network cable on the router I noticed there was a slight clicking noise when moving the cable - after playing with the cable a bit the signal came on and has not gone off since - using the waterproof connection that came with the unit should prevent the jack in the port from moving going forward.

I came back to this thread to write this up when I noticed the Lock 5G comment mentioned above. Thought I would give it a try. After making the change (selecting lock 5G option, changing band to n78 and no other changes and clicking apply), my DL speed is consistently over 400.

Hi
What value did you use for the arfcn value?

Wireless internet service provider (ISP) Rain has been banned from using the claim that it offers "unlimited data 24/7" in its advertising for 5G service, after losing an appeal before the Advertising Appeals Committee of the Advertising Regulatory Bureau (ARB).

The committee also did not accept evidence from Rain for its claim to offer an average download speed of 200Mbps over 5G on a premium package – for which it offered up a handful of graphs plus a statement from an engineer that these "look relevant and plausible".

I wonder why I am not surprised!
When I signed up everything was so smooth and nice and few months after well...
I hope they can resolve their stuff soon or they might just lose a bunch of customers and die as fiber is getting more and more coverage around.

Received my 5G Rain Router yesterday. Was so excited but only to find that the service is horrendous and the 5G light is never on, besides being within the 5G coverage area. Slowest connection ever and buffering is normal. After using this service for 24 hours, I want out. The after sales service is poor as well. Not once did anybody call to help set it up. Compared to Home Connect that I was using before relocating, Rain is an absolute nightmare. I want out. I have since sent a 'cancel' request.

welcome to the pain and struggle that is Rain Sa, it took me 5 months to get rain to sort out my premium 5g, it took emails and complaints, and more complaints, I now get 350 mb plus in early mornings, 250 mb plus from 8 till 14H00 and then R156mb/s plus in late afternoon and evenings

I connect to towers 2 km and 2.8 km away while a tower is 560 m from my location and router is facing this tower, a new tower is to be built within 150 m from my location and in direct sight of my router

my router is placed on a pole on top of our two story complex roof,
