Rain LTE not Working?

Seems like connectivity has been restored in Somerset West

Well just did some digging.

RAIN is the new incarnation of iBurst who went out of business in 2017.
The same company everyone was moaning about for poor service then.

Well done sherlock that's old news...

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/wireless/226443-iburst-shutting-down-tomorrow.html

The shutting down of the iBurst network follows the acquisition of iBurst parent WBS by Multisource in 2015, and its subsequent launch of the Rain LTE-A network.

I decided to test drive my Rain sim again today as I require it for a future work project. I couldn't understand why I didn't have any internet access earlier this morning at work. Managed to get on after a LOT of hassle. Tested again at home, same story, no throughput whatsoever.

It's definitely not limited to eastern and western cape, I'm in Bloem and I have no connectivity either. Glad to see I'm not the only one having issues. Luckily I have fibre at home, so its not all doom and gloom. Hope Rain can sort this out, otherwise I'll need to make a different plan in the future.

Mine's dead also, since yesterday I think, the support team don't have any answers either, simply saying that they have not heard anything yet from the network team.

“About 2% of users are affected, and we are working hard to resolve the fault – which we hope to do soon,” said Rain.

Sure ...

Both my fixed and mobile not working today. Yesterday mobile was at least working when fixed was down.

Surprisingly last night and this morning I was getting the highest speeds I have ever had on my Rain SIM - 40Mbps. Normally it's around 10Mbps.

Uncapped sim not working since 11pm Tuesday, capped sim worked till just after 10am the next morning. I contacted customer service and first thing they asked was my location and they immediately told me there was an outage, they"ll mail me once the problem was rectified. So i thought this was a area specific problem because of the location question..

To the guys recommending the APN change fix, thanks for the advice! I'll try it once I get home later, if successful I'll report back. Not gonna give Telkom another R18 for 2 days worth of slow internet

Wow.
I've just received an email from rain asking me to rate the quality of my support.
I'd contacted them earlier on their online chat to ask why I couldn't connect. They were not helpful.

I just changed to 'Rain' APN and it's working again.

I just changed to 'Rain' APN and it's working again.
Got home now, tried to connect but still nothing.. so i just switched off the router for 2 minutes, switched back on then it worked
Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll try it if it goes off again!

Working again, Eerste River, Cape Town.
Didnt change APN, just switched off my b315 huawei router for 2 minutes and switched back on again then it worked.

Phew, and I initially thought they disconnected me because i went over 50 gigs for the month!
