so if i increase my spend limit to R250 do i get the 5 gigs of data as well as the uncapped option, or do i not get the 5gigs but have the uncapped option?
You'll only have the uncapped option.. The spend limiter has to cater for the uncapped option :) I don't think you can set it at R250, I have mine set to R270

ok, so what happens during the peak times? Does the internet stop working? or is it like OOB?

I'm actually not sure, I only use mine out of peak times, as I only use my rain uncapped for work. I'd imagine the service will be suspended as the limit has been reached, and you'd have to adjust your limit to reactivate it?

thats the thing, they are very vague on the website, not much information on there....

Is there anyone here that knows the answer as to what happens when you use the data during peak times

It just stops working, and comes back on at 23h00.

My spend limit is set at R250, no problem with doing that.

I have another 4G router with a Telkom Mobile SIM using a Mo'nice deal (3G for R30) to fill in for data between 6 and 11. No downloads or streaming done in that time, we watch Plex movies and series then.

Exactly! But that's still a bit expensive @R50/Gb. Cheaper deals are available for data, but it's a bit inconvenient having to swap out SIMs every night.

Agreed, which is why I've got 2 B618's; one for Rain, and one for Telkom Mobile. These are connected to a dual WAN router and I explicitly schedule when the Telkom connection kicks in (and out).

Yes you get a gig, but you'd have to be extra cautious to not smoke it in one day. Imagine you are streaming a movie and you hit 6pm and forget to stop, you'd smoke that gig on the first day of the month. 2 routers controlled by a downstream dual WAN router work a treat when you use 2 providers

That's how I'd like to run my setup. Can you give us a description of how you configured that?

I use a Peplink Balance One router. Each WAN port (there are 2) is used by a B618. I then connect one of the LAN ports from the Peplink into an Asus router for WiFi.

That's a serious bit of kit you have there!
I was hoping to re-purpose a TP-Link router I have spare, but it only has one WAN port (I had the vague idea of using the LAN ports, but I guess that won't fly and anyway I don't think it has the ability to switch off ports on a schedule).

I'm generally a bring an artillery to a knife fight kinda guy. Been burned too many times in the past by false promises.

I did my research on the Peplink after one of the MyBB members recommended it. And I knew that I needed 2 B618's. The Asus was a no-brainer. Simple and easy to use, but powerful.

I flashed open-wrt on an old tp-link and use that to switch between my uncapped rain and additional MTN connection (in two different routers). It works a treat

That's what I had in mind!
Can you describe a bit more? (What network ports did you plug into, DHCP settings, etc)?
Also, can you schedule access to each service?

I simply plugged the two routers into the lan ports and set up scheduled tasks (crontab) to switch the default gateway at the necessary times. Took me a bit to figure out, but now that I know what to do it shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to set up.

First thing to do though would be to get open-wrt on the tp link. Once that is done the rest is super easy.

Edit: I disabled dhcp on both LTE routers and set their ip to .0.2 and 0.3 respectively. Dhcp is enabled on the tp link with ip 192.168.0.1.

guys if they need proof of address and ID, and for you to take delivery at the proof of address place, how does one do this with a job?

I see they take 2/3 days so order on a Friday afternoon and hope they deliver on the weekend?

They delivered it at work and accepted any proof of address just fine...they deliver wherever you want them to deliver, not just at the proof of address place.

And I doubt they will deliver over a weekend.

Pic of a new rain tower in Himeville, KZN. Seems like they chose to put in their own infrastructure in the Telkom enclosure rather than share the Vodacom towers. View attachment 634634

I got bad news for you. That is a Telkom tower. You can see by the flat sector antennas which is the ones Telkom uses. Also no more than 2x2 mimo on that tower if anything due to the limit cables plugged into it.
