*READ FIRST* iBurst Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

DNS and Iburst

Also getting DNS errors all over the show. tried to phone technical support but as usual the call was cut more than once

I was able to load "some" websites. now i'm getting DNS errors and timeouts all over the show. If you phone tech support to find out whats going on, your call just gets dropped.

The buck stops with the person responsible for this shambles, and that's the CEO. If he's willing to tolerate this state of affairs, then customer service, as well as the core service for which we are all paying, will never improve. IMO the caliber of any management team is a direct reflection of the caliber of the staff they employ. I've been willing to accept the usual ups and downs without complaining - I was browsing these forums for years without feeling the need to register and comment. Lately it's not just going downhill, it's disintegrating.

well, the same issue has finally hit me. I've had fully connectivity for a whole 2 days running. This is a joke

Network degradation

It never rains but pours.

The storm in Sandton caused a degradation across a large number of links.

We are busy restoring connectivity.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

What is going on iBurst? This is ridiculous! I have been with iBurst for 3 years and have never had this amount of downtime. And I'm not buying the reasons for the downtime. It all just sounds like excuses. Can you please let us know what's exactly going on and if this is going to be resolved, or if we need to start looking for alternative solutions.

I'm furious I can't believe iBurst is down again. I have a massive web application to code tonight and was planning on working through the night to get this done - I have to be connected to our database server over the net to be able to complete this - now I have no connectivity so I basically have to go sleep now and face the music tomorrow morning with my client. I hate you iBurst, you make my life a living nightmare and make me look studip in front of my clients, from which I need to get money to pay you...

I phoned tech support too but they also dropped my calls, as they usually do - I love it that iBurst is so consistent with service and support! ;-)

Happy one week anniversary of this mediocracy.

From the subliminal to the ridiculous, enjoy the Christmas cheer.

I know exactly how you feel; I had a web app project earlier this year. All was going fine until suddenly it stopped working (I ran some parts locally). I tested and retested, added debug code, but it still didn't connect to the web service. I took a break, tried to check email, only to discover that iBurst was down (still connected, but not working). I was struck with panic as I had a demonstration the following day. Luckily the problem was sorted in about an hour (perhaps shorter; I took a nap). I hope on your behalf the problem gets sorted out soon.

Tonight, when nothing was working (again, like nothing), I plugged my modem out completely, flushed DNS and after reconnecting all SEEMS fine now... (probably until I post this :))

I don't know how you got your working. I have flushed the cache and reset both my iburst modems. I can ping the iburst DNS servers that my router picks up, and some local sites. But cannot ping anything international. I cannot access any sites from my browser, and also I cannot the local sites in my browser that I can ping. Please sort out. This has gone on for way too long!

Please PM me your UTID and I'll investigate.

Major incidents last night

We have been up all night clearing the incidents the occurred last night. These included link failures (both microwave and fibre)
I apologize for the inconvenience especially since this has occurred shortly after the Seacom outage and peering issues.
Flame on (can't be as bad as the repurcussions of skipping the wedding anniversary dinner)

Ronald you are a rose amungst the thorns m8. Take the day off and spend some time with the better half :)

Could us forumites perhaps have some indication of the direction IBurst is taking?
CellC is coming in at 21mbps (Theoretical) cost of cap is coming down 8a is on the scene and us Ibursters seem to be getting screw## by technical issues and previously changes that made online gaming next to impossible. Is it time to move on to bigger better things?

The iBurst infrastucture investment will remain there for many years still (easily up to another 8 to 10 years) Yes, it is only 1 Mb/s but that does cover some subscriber requirements.

In the new year we will become the first provider in ZA and Africa to peer directly via fibre to the hosting provider of all the major gaming titles in Europe.

As far as alternative access technolgy types is concerned there is investigation and research being conducted which will be revealed when appropriate.

Signal strength and signal costing are not always directly related. Please PM me your UTID and I'll have the techies double check to which towers you are connecting.

Additionally, please read the attched document on how to improve the signal http://www.iburst.co.za/documents/support/Antenna_installation.pdf

Hi Ronald
I have sent you a pm with my Utid,
thanks for the document, I may consider getting an external antanea however i have not needed one before, so why all of a sudden i would need one now?

and conectivity is up and down, downloads seem ok (not great as usualy was) i cleared quite a bit last during happy hour, but again this morning speeds are not great and from the looks of it uploads are even worse

I have been experiencing intermittent DNS errors as well as timeouts on a number of overseas sites over the past couple of days. This is still going on at the moment.
I have perfect reception and signal strength (I literally live within range of +-100m of a tower) and when downloading it normally runs uninterrupted at over 100 KB/s. Last night and early this morning I experienced disconnects during some of these.
There still seems to be some technical issues.

Still having all the same issues as a week ago, Iburst must stop lying about Seacom going down etc. It's their sh*t network!

Nothing has changed, still got issues and this weather is not helping either...
