Spoke a bit too soon I guess. DNS issues back again
[EDIT] 22:15 - YouTube won't display vids either
Mercy, have started getting DNS errors again... Storm damage, Rooi? Highveld had some pretty awesome fireworks past two nights.
Well the "The connection was reset..... The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." problem seems to be back, every other page either give that message, or myBB css just doesn't load, and reading the forums with out a style sheet really sucks....
After midday, browsing has become unusable again. I had hoped we were out of the disaster. Once again, the problem lies with Iburst - I can browse fine through Vodacom.
Iburst - you surely cannot make us pay a full month's subscription for December???
Investigating upstream packet loss issues which seem to be related to another Seacom outage.
Will confirm once their is formal feedback.
So why is iBurst ONLY affected? My Vodacom 3G works perfectly?

Still having problems. :/
Sites not loading, random disconnections, slow browsing.
Ok, I'll explain.
There is a 10 000 pound gorilla on the Internet called akamei http://www.akamai.com/
Most popular websites use akamei for content distribution and worldwide there are over 12000 servers available. As an example, when facebook or farmville is loading you will see it using static.ak.facebook.com and static.farmville.com These are not facebook or farmville servers but akamei servers.
In South Africa there are 3 akamei server farms: Internet Solutions, SAIX and Vodacom. akamei controls which server farm you use by DNS and makes a determination which one is best on your network automatically. Typically these name resolutions will be there for 12 hours.
On the iBurst network akamei has determined that the akamei server farm at Internet Solutions is the one assigned for current use. On the 3G network the akamei server farm at Vodacom is assigned.
Hence the failure at Internet Solutions impacted browsing to certain sites using akamei while on 3G it wasn't.
PS: Beside FB and FV, the following also use akamei: apple, microsoft, symantec, advertising sites, image sites, etc.
So this potentially explains why I couldn't update Windows or Microsoft products BUT the fact is that I WASTED nearly 300 Megs on download attempts which went almost to completion before failing, plus the additional virus products and signatures I downloaded to check to see if perhaps my machines were infected and causing the problem!!
If this had been posted earlier the 300 Megs would not have been unnecessarily wasted!!!
