Report blames apartheid for violence

The report didn't say whites are doing anything wrong now, neither is it using Apartheid as an excuse or something. It's just saying that it definitely caused a lot of deep social ills, which it did!

What we need to do now is look forward, and work together to make this place better and I think everyone agrees on that.

Wise words ... And so say all of us!

So wait it's not the past now or is it?

It's both.

Zing! :)

Oh, and white people have been murdering and raping white people since ... well. Since forever, actually... And I believe they still do.

+1
to be on topic again. They need to write this in bold and on the cover page, so that the supremacists, sensationalists, denialists, racists, and paranoists don't put words in their mouths...

We are the last generation of whites in this country the ANC will drive every young educated white person out of SA with there racist outlook.

You are most definitely on the wrong track (racist track)! Anyway, it is believed that according to the Mayan calendar we will all be wiped out come 2012!! So why not relax and enjoy life while we have it?

Thanks, I think that I will go and have a steak & chips !

(I need it, a lightning strike this morning blew up my ADSL router and phone base station - and maybe other stuff, haven't checked yet).

Don't mean to snipe this, but I think we're at most 10 posts away from fulfilling Godwin's law...come on guys - I have money riding on this one...

Lol i had to google that to find the humor in it... let me get it over and done with... and therefore Apartheid was created by Hitler and his croonies... Now can i get a share on those odds?

Sweet! Not sure if I'm still gonna get my cash since I had to remind the group about this oft-underestimated mathematical relationship. if so, then I'll drink to you tonight mate! Thanks!

I continue to be amazed that educated people really think these things have no knock-on effect. Did you really think I can understand the uneducated poor people thinking everything would immediately be great once Apartheid ended. And similarly those whose families benefited do themselves indirectly benefit from Apartheid.

I just wanted to post this.

Most people don't want to face this problem and will shove it away as saying it is already 16 years that we are a democracy, but if you look at the social economic environment different type of people live in, we can still see that that it still has an big impact on our country.

Fine but then don't blame Apartheid, blame the current social economic environment and question why in almost 17 years it has not improved.

The past has a direct connection to THE PRESENT(future).

Apartheid is not the COMPLETE reason why people are violent towards <whatever here> but you better BELIEVE it is a HUGE part of it. You can deny it all you want but there is a reason why these stories come up, year after year...after year after year.

LISTEN to these people and try to understand where they are coming from. Apartheid and Slavery are biggest impact to hit the black race(-/+ aids), in many ways that is the FOUNDATION of the race and it wasn't as if any black person would want such a thing to happen or wished for it, but these are the AFTERMATH results and these are just some the consequences. It will only get worse from here(Karma?)

So if your whole foundation as a human is coming from the bottom to rise to the TOP, when you are at the bottom you also have a lot of "negative" emotions that should remain at the bottom(anger/sadness) so when these emotions are mixed with the current state of the average black man, on top of it, his/her GENETIC code has now been wired to survive at ALL COSTS....I mean WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?

This article speaks the truth in my view...

I concur, Apartheid is the reason the ANC is in power and they've ****ed things up royally. So I guess through association Apartheid is 100% to blame - of course so is van Riebeeck and the Dutch. Of course the Dutch are only the way they are because of the French. Mind you the French has a rather large impact because of the Romans. And so I guess the Greek influence on the Romans is a cause. Well that does have something to do with the Phoenicians and Egyptians. And well they are north Africans quite influenced by the continent and the slave trade. Hell that originated in large parts of central and Southern Africa. Huh, guess that means that Black South Africans only have themselves to blame since we are the Cradle of Humankind.

EDIT: Guess they were right. Point a finger and three point back at you.

A useful analogy is this.
How long does it take to build a house or a skyscraper? A few months, to a year? How long does it take to destroy it completely? a couple of seconds depending on what you use.
Then how long will it take to rebuild it? A couple of seconds? doubt it....
Apologies if that sounds a bit off-ish, but it's just that the comment seemed to be a bit lazy... The point is, the reason it's taken 17 years is because it's difficult.

And how far back do we apportion blame? I believe if we look hard enough it occurred somewhere in the West Rand several hundred thousand years ago.

However, ground zero was eventually cleared, if not rebuilt. It seems to me that the social economic conditions of South Africa have not changed since the ANC came to power. This is unfortunate and defies all the principles they claimed to strive for.

It seems to me the only thing most citizens received post-Apartheid was a vote, nothing more. Until they use it correctly they will continue to receive nothing else.

Ground zero has been cleared, but the trade centre hasn't been rebuilt.
What happens to the families of the people who lost loved ones to 9.11? Are they meant to just forgive al qaeda or even forgive the people of the nations that harbour these fundamentalists? Is it the case that all's well and brushed under the carpet? No - coz what happened when someone wanted to build a mosque at ground zero? The people who are still (validly) hurt are up in arms.
Both sides have a valid point and reason for seeing things the way they do. Acting as if they don't is simply ignorance.
The reason it's still an issue is coz someone who feels hurt by it is still alive, and voicing their opinions. So they point fingers until there isn't anyone left to point the finger/ express that view. That's when blame apportionment ends. Never said it's right - but you gotta understand that that's what's going to happen, surely!

In the USA they most certainly do not just accept the status quo, which is what the citizens of this country seem to have done. For many people the ANC has just become and extension of Apartheid since they have received little, if nothing, since "freedom".

However progress has been made, and it is obvious and exciting. The site doesn't just stagnate. The little progress made in this country is unfortunate - it may have originated in Apartheid, but it ends with the ANC.

Well I'm not sure that obvious and exciting changes are what matter the most. Sure the US can make a fancy memorial around the area, but does that count more to them than actual measures to ensure the safety of their citizenry. Is the US safer is the question, and not just a feeling of safety, but actual safety.
The equivalent here would be - is it more important to feel that there's progress or for actual progress?
If so then let's be specific. It's too simple to play ANC-vs-Apartheid games. There must be better options than that. I think we deserve better than what either set of people have presented...
